I had the privilege to spend time with the code talkers, and all they talked about was how it had been their duty and privilege to serve, even though their comrades had orders to kill them if they were overrun by the Japanese. Not boasting words about how great they were for serving.

I know people who are a couple of the stars on the wall.

Even if you have a DD214 that is actually yours, not a copy from someone else, waving it in the air just says you were in the military. Not everyone who serves their time does so with valor.
