A fine sentiment, this is why brand names work. People do like to do business where they know what to expect and the risks are limited.

Never use independents for that reason. Do this with a stranger? Get caught? Hidden cameras? Getting ripped-off isn't the worst thing that can happen. A girl or her madam turn rat on you? Blackmail maybe?
Better to avoid crooks, and stupid humiliation, when you can satisfy the urge intelligently.
False conclusion from the mantra you stated above to subscribe to. Agency, madam, pimp or independent, they are all strangers the first time you meet them. Regardless of handshaking, looking in the eye, they are strangers.

How does the statement "know who you're doing business with" translate to "never do business with independents"? If I missed a step or two in the logic you followed to this conclusion, please fill me in.

As far as I know, if you don't consider the agency owner a stranger after you meet them the first time, then the independent is no longer a stranger after you meet them.

As for ratting you out, an agency owner is just as likely to do so as a madam or an independent.

Get a Sugarbabe. Someone you can trust. Drawbacks though....expensive, "relationship" thing.
Sugarbaby arrangement can be expensive, or it can be a great bang for the buck (or both). It just depends on who you are, who she is, and what arrangement you have and how well you negotiate. The benefits of this kind of arrangement also has to be weighed against your needs or wants for variety. Also, if you think you can trust sugarbabies, I have a bridge I can sell you.

Quote:
For the slam-bam go to a madam, or a service. My Papa showed me this way. Introduce yourself to the manager. Look her/him straight in the eye and offer them your hand to shake. Shake theirs firmly and continue looking at them in the eye. Find out who they are, and what they do, because they know who you are.
So you are suggesting an agency, service or a madam for the 'slam-bam', what if I want a different type of service than 'slam-bam'?

As for shaking their hand and making eye contact, I can agree that those are good business and conversation traits, but I disagree that you can rely on those to conduct business. The real crooks will look you right in the eyes and shake your hand firmly while planning to screw you worse than the rest.

Finding out who they are and what they do is a different story. While this might have been good practice when the entire law enforcement looked the other way (either out of corruption or disinterest), this is not a good practice when this hobby is purposefully hunted. When everyone in an illegal business knows everyone else, only one piece has to fall before everyone else falls like dominoes. I do disagree with the statement that they know who I am. I suppose it is possible that they wrote down my plate number at some point and ran the plate, but I doubt that.

Quote:
Don't do business with low-lifes, crooks, cons, scum-bags, anyone in trouble with the law, or anyone who doesn't want you to know who they are.
OK. Again, a blanket statement that needs to be clarified. Does this apply only to this hobby or do you apply this to all business dealings? Do you know who you're talking to when you call your cell phone company? Your bank customer service line? While this is a nice sentiment, it's simply not practical today. If you're only applying this to the hobby, then that is your choice.

Quote:
This is counter to all that I see here in Austin, and on the internet so far.

Am I wrong?

Why?
Yes, you are correct that most of Austin and internet, and I will add, Houston, Dallas, and many cities in North America, conduct their hobby business contrary to the way you do..

Because this is an industry that involves legal risks. The less other people in the industry know about you, the less they can 'rat you out'.

In many of your arguments, you seem to lay out support for one line of business, but somehow end up with a conclusion contrary to your supporting argument. (If you don't want to be ratted out, don't give out your information, instead of trusting an agency owner because you 'know who they are.' Trust me, you don't.

Think about the legal risks that a manager or an owner takes compared to an independent.

Again, it is your choice to hobby or do business as you see fit, it is your money and your business. I and a few others here think your method exposes you to more risks than our method does.

Good luck.

What? Providers aren't screened? Really? Gosh, I thought they had all been fingerprinted, DNA sampled, and background vetted.

You mean. . .I might have to get off my fat ass and do some fucking research?

Say it ain't so, Joe.

Ending a sentence in a preposition is a violation of grammatical law. . .
That is actually a misnomer. There is no such grammatical rule involving ending a sentence in a preposition. It is more of a style preference than anything else. Most writers should just focus on avoiding the unnecessary use of prepositions--anywhere in the sentence.

Of course there are some REAL laws I would love to break with you, doll.

RAT [Rand Al'Thor]

You're post is the first thoughtful one.

The handshake thing I do is just a formality, to seek to impress on someone that I'm serious.

But the major thing I do to satisfy myself that I might be able to trust this person is to size them up when we meet to see if they pass the smell test, and to do a criminal check. The check is something I do for anyone I do business with in any area, not just this.

Is there a guarantee that when I become a regular with a madam or service that it won't blow up down the line? No. But by avoiding the obvious scum-bags and low-lifes I believe I'm reducing the chances to an acceptable level.

Nothing in life or business is certain, but whether it's choosing a doctor, an accountant, or a lawyer, informed people check the prospect out first and therefore usually avoid a catastrophy.

From what I gather it's what indy providers here commonly do, and I think they're wise to do so. I know it's what I would do. My point is that it doesn't work for me if they won't submit to the same.

Barrister,
I don't believe any of your BS.

1. When you call an agency do you then set a meeting with the owner/ manager? If so, how do you know you are actually meeting w/ the owner/manager? Once you meet how do you know they are giving you thier real name? I also doubt that most agency owners would take the time to meet with you. They want to remain anonymous just like the rest of us.

2. You made a statement earlier about the possibility of being video taped by independents. The only sure way to avoid this is to only do outcalls. This way you control the enviroment. Agencies that provide incalls could just as easily set up a video camera as an independent. In fact they may have greater reasons to do such a thing. Not only could they blackmail the client they could also hold it over the head of the provider. Not likely in either case. Word would certainly get around and be very bad for business.

3. Just so the rest of us will feel more comfortable with you being on this board would you please provide us with you full name and address as well as place of employment. I would like to run a check on you to make sure you're not affiliated w/ an agency or LE. Once that is complete I sure everybody will send you their info.

I've never been subjected to a criminal background check as a hobbyist, never submitted enough information for that.

As for the logic that you are avoiding the obvious scum-bags by doing this, I could just say that you're avoiding the obvious scum-bags and doing business with the smart/devious ones that haven't been caught.

Most of us feel that the board itself provides enough information to go by on, as opposed to asking for each party to submit background info. Many feel that sharing such information is adding risk, not mitigating it.

You do a criminal check on girls before you see them? So you won't see them unless they give you their name and social security number? I just felt the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Well, thank you for keeping Austin weird.

What does a criminal check prove anyway? If participating in the hobby is a crime, doesn't that mean a clean criminal check simply means that she is a good criminal? And now she has your social and name? And what if she simply gives you the name and social of another lady she knows (former roommate, ex bf's sister, etc) and now she has your social and name and you only think you have hers? Seems like this process might expedite your fears and bring them to fruition if you wind up with a girl with a real criminal mind....... but do what makes you feel comfortable, Barrister. I don't qualify in your methods of screening providers so we shall never meet. Thanks for the self posted alert. Happy hobbying.

Does it make me a bad person to doubt that a guy who passed the bar would spell this badly? 'Burdeon', for fuck's sake. 'Occured', half a dozen times. Lots more examples on request.
