I disagree with the above. He will implement rent control. A one bedroom apartment with 650 sq feet won't cost $2,500/month anymore. It will be cheaper to catch the subway and ride the bus to work. Other than those two things not much else will change. All the big banks will still have their Corporate Headquarters on Wall Street in NYC. When Trump leaves office he will move back into Trump Tower

I don't see how Cuomo or Silwa can win. Cuomo is/was too handsy with the ladies. Cuomo got fired from being Govenor because he kept asking female coworkers are you still having sex with your husband. He wanted to make a move if they said no. There were 13 cases of this that were ultimately dropped. Sliwa has no government experience.

It’s hard to imagine this guy getting a single vote. New Yorkers have lost their collective minds. Both of the policies adva mentions end in disaster.

Of course it is hard for you to imagine. I could have predicted that before he ever announced for Mayor.

1. I don't live in NYC and never have.

2. I don't need rent control. My rent in North Dallas is reasonable.

3. If NYC gets rent control, it won't be the first city in the USA to have it. Des Moines, Iowa has rent control on certain apartment complexes in the downtown area. The income of the applicant has to be below a certain maximum in order for your application to be accepted. If you make over $70,000 you can't apply. You make too much.

No, they have not lost their minds. Most of the residents in New York City can't AFFORD to live there anymore. That's the problem. This is why the so called democratic socialist is ahead in the polls. Cuomo does not help himself by having 13 claims of sexual harrasement against him when he was Gov of New York. How many women are going to vote for a guy like that?

I can agree with that. High cost of living.

That sounds reasonable.

But there is more to it than just the high cost of everything. Another factor would be the flight of wealthy people from the City and from the State due to high taxes. At some point, "Tax-The-Rich!" won't be a viable approach because they will all have left.

Mandani will merely inherit what previous administrations, local, state and national have brought on the people of the city. The huge influx of foreign nationals during the Biden years didn't help. N or did the open door policy of Governor Cuomo that encouraged them to go there, then protected them from deportation.

There are other factors that contributed to the ruin of NYC, these are the two that come to mind with the first cup of coffee today.

I do not think that the imminent ruin of NYC can be averted or turned around . . .regardless of who is elected mayor tomorrow.

NYC has had rent control for decades.

Double Bonus News Flash:
Mamdani has been living in a rent controlled unit for years.

Let's see if'n he remains in one after the election...
I think everyone knows the answer to that one.

Yes we should deport Mamdani: Personal life. Mamdani is a dual citizen of Uganda and the United States; he was naturalized in the latter country in 2018. He is Shia Muslim and identifies with the Twelver branch. In February 2025, Mamdani married Syrian-American illustrator Rama Duwaji in a civil ceremony at New York City Hall.

Wait a minute! You said support. No. I don’t support him. I believe the peeps of NYC support him through their tax dollars and whatever he gets on the side.

“We” should deport him? Because he’s, what? One of those horrible things you accuse him of? Marrying another American? Practicing the faith of his choice? Being a US citizen?

You got one of them masks you can wear when you snag your fellow American?

BRILLIANT!

And they think THIS guy is gonna make that better? Thanks for making my point.

In my view, what we are most likely to see is a slow-rolling migration of larger and larger swaths of the financial services industry; not a quick exodus. Many very wealthy New Yorkers will remain for largely social and cultural reasons, as they have always loved the city for what it has long offered in so many ways.

Already, many of the "back-office" jobs at financial firms have been relocated to lower cost areas of the country. Just recently, total JP Morgan job numbers in Texas surpassed those in New York. Technology allows more decentralization of these functions now.

Additionally, the number of very-high-paying jobs in the wealth management industry has been growing much faster in the Dallas area recently than in NYC. I understand that leasing in Old Parkland (near downtown Dallas and a favorite of finance guys) has been going exceptionally well.

As mentioned earlier, Mamdani, apparently having learned nothing about the history of rent control, now suggests that exacerbating an already serious problem by subjecting even more properties to rent control, is the right prescription for improving the lot of NYC's working class. Nothing could be further from the truth. Rent control has worsened the affordability and livability of the NYC housing stock; not improved it. As you have probably noticed, an economy does not respond favorably to administrative diktats. (Remember what an abject failure Nixon's price controls of the early 1970s were? What do you think happened to inflation in the aftermath of that harebrained plan?)

Fans of rent control might learn a thing or two from this:

https://www.econlib.org/library/Enc/...footnote_nt389

It's utterly astonishing that so many people seem incapable of learning anything at all from history.

Not just the market will be affected. Landlords, who already operate on a shoestring budget, will let the buildings themselves go to shit because they can’t afford to maintain them.

So y'all predict the city will crumble and fall because this guy gets elected?

That seem ironic to anybody else?
