At the time I worked in the gun free building, I never once thought about the policy. In recent years, after several discussions such as this one, I look back and fully agree with the policy instituted by management.

As I said, I do not care if the establishment I am entering is a gun free zone or not. I don't look for the required signs indicating whether or not it is. I feel equally safe under either circumstance.

Still - i do not see additional training requirements as an unreasonable burden on an individual who chooses to carry deadly force on One's Person.

BTW, every year every company employee must sign a note stating that he or she has read the company's Code of Conduct, with it clearly stated in there that carrying any gun into any company building is a violation and the employee will be subject to termination.

In the 80s/early 90s Exxon security made a bunch of guys open their vehicles, search for guns and fired a few people. They had bought their rifles to work and were going to bug out to the leases for the opening day of deer season.

Walmart's and other stores that do this usually only use off duty LEO, as they want a real cop to also handle shoplifting, etc, not a rent a security guy.

Does anyone ever get arrested for shoplifting at Wally's? I haven't seen an incident in years. They used to have an alarm go off if you took something out of the store like condoms without paying for it (boop boop boop). Haven't heard it in a while.


As a side note I was working in N. Houston when an 8 point buck crashed through an office building and trapped a guy. Personally saw it from the building next door. Deer tried to get the miniblinds off his antlers but couldn't. Heard man was OK but deer bled out a mile down 45.

As far as I know, my company policy of no guns applied only to the building, not the parking lot. And if someone felt unsafe walking from the building to their car, a call to security would get them an escort.

I think the Exxon policy went overboard but employees must know the rules and abide by them or suffer the consequences.

As i understand Texas gun law - it is permissible to store a weapon out of sight in a locked car in a parking lot in most places. There may be exceptions I am not remembering - like a prison parking lot.


Companies can set what regulations they wish on private corporate property - with company discipline for violations - but not criminal charges.

The Exxon story sounds like some HR nut case went on a Crusade against weapons.

Pretty sure the Texas law states it is "legal" to store a weapon out of sight in a locked car in a parking lot in most places. The company has no right to search your vehicle, except, as you state in certain situations, like military bases etc. In my understanding of Texas law, a 'car' is considered part of your 'home'.



The part I like about that law is that it can also be loaded and cocked, if you're into that. None of that gun controlled city/state stuff in place like NJ and Cali (read gun controlled - heavily), where they have ridiculous hoops and kooky constrictions.
