Healthcare for illegals isn't what the Dems are requesting, Lusty.
You can drop the strawmen.
Quote:
As we have written repeatedly, undocumented immigrants have never been eligible for full Medicaid coverage. In fact, even many lawfully present immigrants are not eligible for Medicaid. Undocumented immigrants have also never been eligible for premium tax credits to purchase Marketplace plans, and cannot even purchase a private plan on the Marketplace with their own money.
As part of the shutdown negotiations, Democrats requested extension of enhanced Marketplace premium tax credits, first enacted in 2021, that expire at the end of this year and reversal of the massive Medicaid, Marketplace, and other health care cuts in H.R. 1 (the legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act). However, neither of these priorities, if enacted, would somehow newly provide or reinstate Medicaid or Marketplace subsidy eligibility for undocumented immigrants (they will continue to be ineligible whether it happens or not).

Free or subsidized healthcare for millions of NON-CITIZENS is what the Dems are requesting, Gristle.
I oppose it. I don't care if you are "lawfully present" in the US or not. While you're here waiting for full citizenship, you can get off the federal teat and buy your own healthcare.
If you want to argue for the opposing view, be my guest. But no more splitting hairs.

Try again

So ultimately, neither extending APTCs nor repealing H.R. 1 will increase or reinstate coverage for undocumented immigrants. These two actions would, however, preserve coverage for about 14.2 million people, the vast majority of whom are U.S. citizens with the smaller remainder beinglawfully presentimmigrants.

again goverment flips the bill
Yes, Emergency Medicaid, and other forms of Medicaid and Medicare, are responsible for providing reimbursements to hospitals for the emergency services provided to eligible individuals under EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act). The federal government uses programs like the Section 1011 program, which pays for emergency services for undocumented immigrants, to reimburse hospitals for a portion of the costs of providing EMTALA-mandated emergency care. For eligible Medicaid patients, reimbursement is covered as part of regular State Medicaid Plans.

Only sometimes... when it's applicable. In most cases it is not. Section 1011 covers eligible undocumented, but also individuals granted entry specifically for medical purposes and certain Mexican nationals granted entry.
Do you happen to know the annual cap on 1011 funds? Or if it's still going?
2016 is important

You're not listening. Your quote (no source provided, as usual) mentions "lawfully present immigrants". They should NOT be receiving government healthcare subsidies, unless or until they become full US citizens. That's my opinion as a taxpayer. If you disagree, tell us why. In your own words.

The source was provided previously. You read the links, right?
I know you're sharing your opinion, because you're not sharing the facts about the shutdown rationale. I'm interested in the facts

Lol!
Lookee here - another Dem carve-out exception to the rules! For the "eligible undocumented"!
See how the Dems operate? They constantly slip new categories, definitions and exceptions into the "rules". Then they hope nobody notices while they smash open the new loopholes wider & wider over time. It's the "thin edge of the wedge". Once you get it in there, you can sledge-hammer it deeper & deeper!
And when Republicans blow the whistle on them, what do they do? First, they call them liars. Then, they claim it's no big deal since it doesn't really cost taxpayers a yuge amount of money - YET.

It was sunset in 2016
It was part of the MMA enacted in 2003 (Dubya) and had a hard cap on annual funding.
This is also something you can't toss in the face of 2025 Dems

Wait - you want to pivot the convo to why is Chucky Schumer skeered shitless of AOC and the bolshevik wing of the Democratic Party? Ok.
But only AFTER you tell us whether you support billing US taxpayers for subsidized healthcare for NON-CITIZENS - and if so, why you think it is justified.

The thread is about the shutdown and who is to blame.
You can't lay 1011 payments on 2025 Dems when 2003 Republicans are why the law that authorized them passed to begin with, and the program sunset in 2016. Before even the Biden surge.
These are literally strawman on strawmen about strawmen at this point

Fair enough. Now answer my question. Surely you must have a strong and defensible view on the issue.

That wasn't the question. No need to be coy. Re-read posts #66 and #70.

Start another thread where that's on topic and we can chat over there. It's irrelevant to whether a shutdown will occur (it did) and who is to blame (Republicans)
I'm trying to stick to the topic
