Why not? We all have the hobby and other stuff in common, we can't we post something for like minded people to discuss? Can we discuss stuff of this nature at work or at home? No we can't, so what better place to put our feelings out there.
Only people like you and a handful of others keep us from having good discussions about many different things.
I'll give you an example. I made a thread back in 2010 about how some of us need a colonoscopy, and about the prep, exam, and the period after. I did this with the best of intentions and to help out others. Maybe some were in need of one and really wanted to find out what all was involved, and if I could get just one person to get one, that would be a success. That was then, this is now, and I wouldn't even consider making this thread at this point in time. That's an example on how much the Houston forums have degraded in the past 4 years. It's not that I don't want to share information, but it's just not worth the time and effort to post it.
I made a thread back in the early days of the hobby, maybe around 2002-2004 on ymmv.net and it was how if we're not careful we can get caught in a downward spiral. It was a good thread, nowadays people would turn a serious discussion into a bullying thread. Some things that happen need to be taken in a serious manner, but a small handful of people don't have the maturity to participate in an adult like and serious thread.
Justin Scott takes a hiatus. So instead of telling him goodbye, some take cheap shots at him, suggesting he's posting under the influence. What nonsense. Why can't people wish him well and be done with it..........or just skip on to the next thread. Because some weak minded individuals take joy in pointing out his failings.
A provider decides to retire, but things don't work out. Some of you take extreme joy to point out to her that she failed. Why? What was gained?
