I can see that Ashley got up to the window and from the angle of how she was posed, it looks like she was either trying to get into the side window or get a view into the other room. Either way, she's approaching the door which was bashed on repeatedly by the guy with the riot helmet, and baton. I'd say the confusion of the noises and the constant battering of the door, was likely enough reason for the cop to think that perhaps shots were being fired, by his interpretation, (not mine or yours), but in the moment, he certainly felt threatened. I see the officers on the side behind looking at the stair way and hallway, and perhaps they were told to watch for any additional access via those stairs as they may have been the access to where the members of congress were retreating too.

There's lots of un-answered questions, and I do think the cop overacted in reviewing the film, but discharging his weapon was his only weapon to dissuade those who were trying to break through that doorway. You don't fire a weapon to wound, you fire to kill. That's what he did, and I do think it's a justified shooting from what else I've read. I see a person who looked like they were trying to get through the doorway- and there was bashing and loud banging going on by her fellow insurrectionists.

The fact that she's dead for being where she shouldn't have been is all that is needed to know.

Her family will have to accept that being a political pawn cost her- her life.

The fact that more ppl weren't shot is actually amazing to me. I'd say if there is another attempt by a radicalized group determined to break into the capital, the death count will likely be much higher.

Not glad Ashley was killed...sorry that she was so gullible as to go there and act as she did, and as the other 750 plus ppl who also have been charged so far.

I had replied prior that perhaps as they were beating on the door in the entry and bashing out the glass, it sounded like shots being fired, and glass being shattered, to the cop since that is loud banging indeed. Not sure if that was ever talked about, but loud banging on tables, or doors etc, can indeed sound like percussions or small arms. If the cop didn't state that, or was in-accurate on the details, that would be my input. I'm not glad that or happy that Ashley is gone- but that is a choice that she made by being in the wrong place, wrong time.

Also some others have mentioned that lefty's think that it's justified to empty clips at people typically- and this cop didn't empty his either. He fired once; no need to lie about it.

Thanks for answering the question unlike everyone else who avoided it. The problem with your explanation is it does not fit the timeline or situation. The officer who murdered Ashli Babbitt shot her, then realizing what he had done, a minute later he called in his false report saying we have shots fired in the lobby at us.

That was a complete fabrication and done after he already murdered her. There was a total of one shot fired, by Byrd. He made the false report to try to cover his lying murdering ass

Byrd made another radio call, stating, “405B. We got an injured person. I believe that person was shot.” In fact, no shots were fired at Lt. Byrd or his fellow officers. The only shot fired was the single shot Lt. Byrd fired at Ashli.
