If you value the Google Maps app, I would advise against getting an iPhone 5 or an iPad or updating any device to ios 6. The Apple Maps app is worse than you can imagine - it is pure-d shit. I updated my iPhone 4S to ios 6 and wish I hadn't - Sunday I have allotted several hours to attempt to downgrade my phone to ios 5 - I found a link to the software and instructions on an Apple website today - it may be gone by now - Apple doesn't like independent thinkers.

I guess, I am a target customer for apple, I only update my phone when prompted, and the gps has never left me stranded, ( I do have the Garmin street pilot app, Very cool and very easy to use)
The rest of the stuff, they have worked the kinks out, sent me an update, it works again in the morning..... I had a blackberry for the 6 years before I got an iPhone, that may be the reason I like my iPhone so much....

I just went and checked this new 5 out..... As already stated google maps is gone. YouTube is also gone and I didn't see a replacement. I see it's longer but thinner, you gain space one way and lose it the other way. The speaker seems louder but I don't know how loud it is when you are calling. Think I'm gonna hold off on the 5 and see what more think of it.

[steps out of the shadows]
EA...having read this post, I checked my 4S and sure enough the Youtube app is gone after downloading the iOS 6 update. Sooo...I checked the app store and you can get the Youtube app for free. No issue there.
As far as Verizon----> FUCK VERIZON!!!
I admit for the last several years I have jumped from carrier to carrier...mainly due to issues with customer service.
I had a billing issue once with Verizon, so naturally I called CS. The bitch on the other end of the line started talking to me like she was scolding her child...and I don't know about anyone else around here, but I'm not gonna take that shit off of someone who is supposed to be a professional in dealing with customer service issues.
Broke the contract with Verizon, paid the fee and went to T-mobile.
Had an issue with my Galaxy S...so I went to the T-mobile store TWICE hoping one of their staff could help me. Their staff were either totally ignorant in regards to their product or just didn't give a shit.
Broke the contract with T-mobile, paid the fee and went back to AT&T.
I have never had a problem with AT&T.
My first iPhone was a 3G and it ran like a clock; never had any issues with it at all. The only reason I left AT&T was my contract was up and I wanted to try the new (at that time) DROID X. So began the fiasco with Verizon.
I bought my current iPhone 4S probably...3-4 months ago and have been very happy with it. Since I have a lot of time left on my current contract and the 4S is more than enough for what I need...I have no desire to jump into the latest model. By the time I'm ready to upgrade the iPhone 7 or 8 will be out.

John how about the new maps they have is it decent or do you even use it? Does anyone use other map versions on their iPhone that is better. I am using google maps on my iphone3 and when I used g maps on my droid I had an option for navigation, it was very accurate.

Dude ios6 sucks ass! They updated my pad when they put out that five phone. My battery on the pad is going out faster and so is chicks iPhone. The maps is bullshit! No street view! They got the lame 3d effect down town area only. I'm not all that happy with it. Maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject can fill us in more on what the upgrade did.

I rarely use maps or navigation apps on my phone. The last time I used it...was before the iOS6 update and it worked very well. As for now, with the latest update...I don't know, yet.

It may be a blessing in disguise, but my iPad is the first generation...therefore the iOS6 upgrade was not available for my model.
I have had an issue with my iPad since the iOS5 upgrade. Since that update...I will be in Safari looking at who knows what...and all of a sudden my screen goes black and I get booted to the home page. It doesn't happen all the time but more than enough to be quite annoying.
Apple is usually pretty good about putting out updates...so hopefully they'll put something out soon that'll take care of the bugs. One can hope...at least.

YouTube is owned by Google. Google Maps is owned by Google. The Android operating system is owned by Google...get the picture?
Google has already said they will be releasing both a YouTube app and a Maps app for the iPhone, and Apple has said they'll approve it. No date has been set. For now, you can still access both YouTube and Google maps via Safari on the phone.
I've had a couple inaccuracies with the Maps in the iPhone, but nothing major. A gas station that wasn't there, etc. The turn by turn is okay, but I never used turn by turn anyway. It's done by TomTom, so if you have had one of their GPS systems, it's the same service. It's a quantum leap over the old Google Maps system of advancing to intersections only.
The iPhone is taller, and it is thinner, but it's not less wide. Both phones are 2.31" wide, so you don't lose any screen real estate in any dimension, you only gain it. The massive difference is in weight, 4.8 oz to 3.95 oz.

I was having the same issue on iPad 3 with Safari, on the IOS 5.1.1 update, but IOS 6 seems to have fixed it, haven't had any issues since updating last week. Just got my iPhone 5 today, haven't really played with it yet, but it's definitely lighter, fits the hand nicely, and the bigger screen is nice.
