"This can be settled once and for all by putting together a unit of predominantly trans soldiers and putting them into the field. I would strongly suggest to Sec. DEf. Hegseth that his be done. We have field exercises every year so this shouldn't be a drawn out process. I imagine that the LGBTQ advocates would endorse this evaluation."

This is still not a settled matter. Our society will work it through and a consensus will evolve.

While I have not served in uniform, I have worked directly with patients at a major VA teaching hospital where I interacted with an informally interviewed many veterans of W-II, Korea and Viet Nam. REtired now, I value the opportunity I had to hear their "war stories". Any of them could have been my father or one of my uncles. Not practical to do, but it would be healing for many on this forum if we could gather and share around some of this sort of thing. Perhaps in is a non-hobby, non-political thread.

As the father of a former AMarine who saw combat at Ramadi, Fallujah and other "minor actions" in Iraq, I can attest to the enduring effects of war on a veteran. Our son will slays pass a car that is parked beside the road by driving in the furthest lane away, among other thankfully innocuous yet observable behaviors. He does see a therapist each month.

Yet with all f that said, It is my belief (not a phobia) that gender dysphoria is a issue that must be approached from a mental health perspective. If transitioning through hormone therapy and irreversible surgery is deemed to be the best treatment for an adult. . well OK.

At the risk of being pointed yet again, I am compelled say that I can not condone, encourage or support such irreversible medical procedures on sub-adults. We all can talk forever about transgendered folks in uniform but the bathroom/locker-room controversy with a real thing for the parents. About any daughter-dad will face prison over that.
