There is a difference between July and today. When Comey announced that they would not indict Hillary the reaction was "WTF, all those crimes and no charges? What's going on here with Comey?" The democrats reaction has been "How dare Comey go back on his first presentation. This isn't fair to Hillary."
We had a good reason to be incredulous back in July. The democrats are just made that Comey (in their perceptions) is betraying them.
It was mainly Trump supporters whose reaction was "WTF, all those crimes and no charges?".
I believe that Comey's recent actions will not impact the election as to who wins or loses. I do not believe that Comey betrayed anyone, whether it be July or today. However, the guideline is that someone in the position of Comey is to not make such statements within 60 days of an election. It isn't Democrats who are coming down on Comey the hardest, although they are certainly not happy with the timing, but rather past and current FBI members, the DOJ, and legal experts who say that while Comey has done nothing illegal (it is a guideline, not a law) it is unprecedented and should not have been done at this particular time.

And the number of investigations that have found any administrative wrongdoing related to the Benghazi tragedy -- 0.
