Probably the best I can't really remember all that well (but keep the bragging rights) was Michael Jackson's Victory Tour at Mile High. The thing I do remember is wearing that oversized replica sequin white glove for months! Lol!!!

Oh! now you're bringing back the old school stuff! Ok..NO judgments but Debbie Gibson was so awesome! I think she was with Tiffany in concert. My little 9 year old self was so INTO it. Even though she was only playing to 6 yr old to 17 year olds..she did a lot of fancy stuff. Including playing a piano very soulfully to "In Your Eyes"...LOL.
I did see NKOTB once, but don't remember much.

Saw him fall of 1981 at the Continental Club. Five dollar cover. Great show. I think that they had recorded a few tunes and had just signed a recording contract with a major studio, but hadn't really been famous (other than the mixed review set at the Montreaux Jazz Festival). But you could see that he could do it all.

Tiffany opened for NKOTB at the show I went to! Hahaha! I think I was in 5th grade. It was the first concert I bought my own ticket to. I didn't go to another concert for years, unfortunately. Had a chance to see Def Leopard when I was 12 but they were coming on my mom's birthday so I gave my ticket to someone else. After that the next one was 311 when I was like 19 I think. Then I was hooked again. I still hold NKOTB responsible for damaging my expectations of live music for nearly a decade.

Great thread, it brings back a lot of fond memories. It's hard to pick a best one out of somewhere over 100. Stones at the Cotton Bowl comes to mind, so does McCartney at Texas Stadium, and Pink Floyd at Texas Stadium, along with several of the Texas Jam's, also a free outdoor SRV concert by Dallas City Hall, a front row table about 10 feet from Foghat at Dallas City Limits, and Johnny Cash at Billy Bob's, or the Highwaymen at Starplex. However, I think I'll go with the Van Halen/Black Sabbath concert Nov 25th 1978.
It was VH's first tour in support of their first album. A buddy and I camped out all night for tickets at Rainbow Tickets across from SMU, thinking it would sellout fast and it did. We ended up with 5th row on the floor and I kept the stub. VH put on a great show, Eddie's guitar playing was incredible and it came through crystal clear. However their set was short, maybe 45-60 min, guessing not enough time allotted and/or material. VH has was so good that when Sabbath came out, the crowd started booing them and eventually chanting "Van Halen", wanting VH back on-stage. The only other time I saw a major act get booed like that was Santana at a Texas Jam (his style wasn't really inline with the other acts on the bill).

Best:
Beatles, Dallas, 1964
YES, Close To The Edge tour, 1973 ( maybe fall, 72 )
Moody Blues 1971
Worst:
ZZ Top BBQ Austin, 1973 - Favorite band, but they sucked that night.

Hard to pick a best. Stones, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Pearl J., ZZ Top, Yes, Led Z, John Cougar, Bob Dilan, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Genesis....
Worst? very eazy. Iron Maiden, Long Beach, 1986, 3rd row.

It`s hard to pick just one, but if you insist.
1 PINK FLOYD at Texas Stadium, It was from row 10 center stage right. Simply Incredible!! It was raining and the lasers through the drops were spellbinding and the sound for a stadium was unbelievable..
2 SRV at Red Rocks CO. with the Fabulous Thunderbirds opening. This was right after Stevie got out of rehab and sounded incredible.
3 Eagles at Nokia Theater when it was over in Grand Prairie at the horse track. It was a last minute addition as a benefit. Sound there is awesome!!

The trick is to catch someone in their prime. That being said:
Best Opening Act: Stevie Ray's first album was getting attention. He opened for the Moody Blues at Reunion. He finished, and 2/3 of the audience left.
Worst concert: Stevie Ray. Smack dab in the middle of his "I'm Addicted" tour. Couldn't even remember the words to his own songs. Very sad.
Best local shows: Gillian Welch and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the much beloved Gypsy Tea Room.
Best Guitarist: Lindsey Buckingham. And I've seen most of the greats. Unique style, very impressive.
Best Surprise Show: Supertramp. Trippy, but very enjoyable. Who'da thunk?
Loudest: Queen, News of the World Tour. Damn, my ears still ring.
Winner Overall: Odd choice, but I may have to go with Concrete Blonde. Lead singer had (still has) the most powerful female lead rock voice I've encountered, and the band rocked like a mofo.

Bryan Adams at the Arcadia in Dallas...before it burned down....circa 1999. It was him, a lead guitarist and a drummer & was a helluva show.
I'm headed to see Fleetwood Mac in Houston in a couple of weeks & hoping it's gonna be a good one.
Worst concert....Yes in the Omni in Atlanta around 1979. Hated their music before I went and hated it even more after I left. Don't remember how in the hell I ended up there anyway...probably had something to do with a girl.

Cool thread.
Many, many "bests," and I can't limit it to one, but I can cut it to 3. In chronological order:
Van Halen, 1984 Tour, Reunion Arena. Awesome band with their best lineup
The Cure -- 1986, Bronco Bowl, Dallas, Texas. First date with the girl I would marry. She drug me to it. I found, much to my surprise, that I liked the band. I also fell in love, so that prolly had a lot do with it. Can still smell the scent in the air when they played Charlotte Sometimes that night (no, not THAT smell...they had just opened one of the big doors behind the stage to let some air in when they kicked into that song, and a jasmine like smell permeated the place). It's a nice memory.
Stone Temple Pilots, Aragon Ballroom (or sumpin' like that), Chicago, 1993. I went up to Chicago on business and came home with a new favorite band. This is the only band I've ever "toured" with, following them from Dallas to New Orleans and on to Tampa the next year. Great fun. Those boys were really cookin' in those days, and Weiland wasn't too messed up yet (or at least not at that particular point in time).
Worst? meh, I block the bad ones from my memory.
Oh, most unexpected concert moment: Michael Jackson's big '84 tour with his brothers swung through Dallas at the same time the Van Halen boys were in town. As I recall, VH was playing multiple nights at Reunion (one of 'em being the show referenced above), and MJ and his brothers were playing multiple nights at Texas Stadium. I don't even recall which of the shows I saw first, but I think it was MJ one night and VH the next...was kind of working my way through a perpetual smoke filled haze back then , so my memory may be a little off. One thing I definitely remember is it was hotter than hell -- summer concerts. Anyway, the VH boys apparently had a night off during all this and, ta-da, they appeared at the Jackson show. Walked through the audience on the concert floor (at least I think that's what happened...it's what I was told happened, but I was in the nosebleeds and wasn't alerted to what was going on until they were on stage...just heard the roar). Long story short, EVH played the solo on Beat It. Very unexpected and completely cool.
