Why would people drink and have a party in a situation where they may need to be a little alert if anything goes wrong? "Yeeeehawww!!! Dat der tornader were comin at us. I shot my best pig and we roasted eet."

  • Because I live fifty miles from the coast.
  • Because I don't get lit up like the 4th.
  • Because hanging with family sitting my garage sipping wine watching the storm go by is fun.
  • Because I can get to the little room under my staircase in twenty second with the five or six people at sheltering at house.
  • Because I know in the morning, I can fire up my generator and go on about my business.

At her house I presume. Though she did borrow a generator from me after the storm.

I got lucky twice.

First, my buddy with a pvt plane called and offered to fly me out to San Antonio. I went, it was nice.

Second, when I got home, I had power, AC, and no damage to the house.

Appreciate your service.

Nearly two weeks with no power running on a generator....between my real world job trying to get a refinery back online afterwards and being a volunteer fire fighter in the Galveston County area at the time....my time time was stretched pretty thin to say the least....one of the most mentally and physically exhausting times I can remember.

2 1/2 feet of water in a single story house. Had to pretty much gut the place and start from scratch. Was out of the house for 7 months. Fuck IKE !!!

Was living in San Leon at the time on the water. Left a few days ahead of the storm , but when I returned home there was no home left.... Just a bunch of debris.
That had to be one of the worst experiences of my life

14 days without power, however never lost water or gas which made things not too bad at all. No damage to house, but swimming pool took a beating. It looked like the black lagoon but was brought back to life in short order once the pool pump power was restored.

An interesting experience but I would leave town next time.
