The last time I had surgery was due to a real bad bike crash back in '98. It was not elective to say the least. Some friends told me it would be a piece of cake. The first one was. Second one wasn't quite so good. Third one was the surgery from hell. Thought I was going to die when I woke up in the recovery room. Took 8 hours in recovery before I was sent back to my room. Well when they told me I needed one more surgery I thought they were trying to kill me for sure. I told one of my doctors that besides them trying to kill me that I thought I had used up 8 of my 9 lives. He had the anesthesiologist come and talk to me. The an doc talked to me, reviewed all of my charts and he asked about every bad effect I had felt. After all of that he told me that had I complained earlier and talked to him about it he could have made a lot of adjustments to my anesthesia. He then showed me all of his notes, told me all of the adjustments he was going to make and he SWORE that I would have a "good ride". Sooo. The next morning in the pre-op he talked me thru everything he was doing, asked me how I was feeling all the way till it was lights out. I woke up in recovery and he was still there. First thing he did was tell me I was doing good and asked "How are you feeling?". I told him it was't like I'd just had great sex or anything like it, BUT I did feel OK. He smiled and said "Well it kind of is like sex cause You gotta tell me how You feel so I can make it better." Lesson learned for me was when the stakes are high ya gotta Really Tell Those Touching Your Body How It makes Your Body Feel! I hope this helps. I still prefer SEX to Surgery, but If I gotta do the surgery I'm going to be Telling them How I Really Feel.
