There is value in posturing strength. Unfortunately Hegseth's attempts at this come off as more of an insecure teenage bully; music to the ears of his boss and supporters.

That response is so obtuse and naive on so many levels that...it would defy belief if one was not aware of the absurd fealty of the responder.

how about all those Generals and Admirals who misplaced billions? how qualified were they???

BAHAAAAAAAAAA
Nah. Cheney was more qualified. He has one documented hit on target.

And whats $$$ and top brass have to do with the topic?
But since you put it out there....

But as the numbers go; war tends to be a greater good construct. As I understand it, a typical, so called(?), narco-boat delivers enough goods(?) to kill between 25,000 to 100,000 Americans and is piloted by a crew of 3-4. There is no collateral damage to other property or persons.

Speaking of numbers: The Pentagon began doing "official" audits of their funding back in 2018 or so. Here is a list of all the years they passed said audits:
  • .

Speaking of dates:
Harken back to a balmy June day in 1971, when U.S. President Richard Nixon declared war on "public enemy number one". Ain't it 'bout time we git 'er dun?!?
...yup. Zero. Why you gotta shame the Huaco one like that?

You want to be really cost effective, use the tools that are already in place and funded: Coast Guard.

They already do interdiction on the high seas. They respond accordingly to situation. They preserve evidence. The way donny and petey are acting, they are like pirates. And our Constitution says what we do with pirates.

You’ve fallen for Trumps bullshit hook, line and sinker. Those numbers are ambiguous at best and utterly false in all likelihood. But they sound good to the mob and have been repeated enough for the average MAGA to remember them.

And there is no war. Congress didn’t approve any war.

The US is committing mass murder at Hegseth’s command.

With Trump’s approval.

They should both be held accountable.
They should be. It starts at the top. Petey has been clearly caught on media saying to kill'em all. The person who fired on that boat is liable immediately. Doesn't matter if there was a standing (illegal) order or not. And Petey is reponsible if issue above illegal order.

Oh snap! You could volunteer to parashoot down to one of those boats. I'm confident that your keen eye for details would be utilized. Wait! You should get paid USD 1 million after a year of recon service. Only seems fair.

Anyway, you parashoot down, scout it all out and if it looks like bad Ju-Ju, just look up to the sky and give a thumbs up. The military can take it from there in like 4 seconds. If it's all good, you get a free ride to somewhere.

Seems like we all win with that one Gilligan.
Why-where-you-at, why should he have to parashoot? Coast Guard should have had point on this. Than solid evidence would have shut everyone up. But I guess donny and petey had too much 'splaining to do when they gave room and board along with a free ride back home for other bad hombres rescued after blowing their boat(s) out of the water. Can you explain that? Like, how did they talk themselves out of life sentences at Club Fed while holding a boatload of drugs?

How do you explain that? You can't, can you.

How do you know it means nothing?

Nothing illegal about being on a boat in the sea.
And what they experienced is totally out of proportion for not having a license if they are fishing.

Got evidence of that?
Nope.

Not to forget this clarion call from Senator AutoPen, way back in 1989: "Let's go after the <poison> lords where they live with an international strike force. There must be no safe haven for these narco-terrorists and they must know it." We even have a video of it here

Millions of actual Americans have been eliminated because nobody had the conviction to do what needed to be done for years. 'bout darn time it is getting handled.

Certainly changes the conversation.
Narco-terrorist to a boat Captain: Psst! Wanna run some cargo up to the States?
Captain: Fugg the chite!
Oh. So the only qualification is a testosterone competition? How schoolyard. Maybe if petey exercised the most important part of his body he would be in such do do. His brain.

And where is the evidence of what you state? Ain't none. Dead men tell no tales. Good way of covering a lie.

And I think you are mistaken in donny being a senator. *BUT* he already autopenned a BIG DRUG LORD convicted of moving hundreds of tons of "poison". Can you please explain the logic of letting him go and whacking off people without evidence? I'm not the only one asking but y'all maggies are pretending not hearing us.

It’s called an extra judicial killing. I don’t believe anyone is shedding any tears over the fate of true drug traffickers but by dispensing with the requirements of evidence and trial Trump has turned the US Military into little more than expensive vigilantes.

Take a look into the drug war in the Philippines under Rodrigo Duterte. It didn’t end well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_drug_war

Authorized by Congress, that’s what it’s called. What Trump is doing isn’t authorized by anyone but his own delusional mind.

It was authorized by a joint resolution of congress called the AUMF.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Author..._Force_of_2001

Until congress authorizes action against Venezuela and its supposed drug boats everything Trump has authorized is likely illegal and Unconstitutional. Pete Hegseth is the just the stooge that Trump has gotten to do the dirty work.

Hegseth needs to be replaced but I’m not sure that he would be replaced with someone else who would be willing to tell Trump and his cronies the truth about their actions.

Hegseth is clearly a smart enough guy from an academic perspective and served his country honorably. However, to me the guy seems too ego driven and too much a grandstander for the position. He just doesn't have the temperament for it. He can't compare to a guy like Powell or Schwarzkopf.

Cause it's like that.

I have had the pleasure of meeting both men... Schwarzkopf was the better leader of the two in my opinion, but neither were ever SECDEF, once again rightfully SECWAR. Powells greatest failing was believing a politician.. he pretty much destroyed his legacy of service lying for W.

Schwarzkopf I don't think would have done that... he would have resigned first.

Yes, I know neither man was Sec. of Defense but I feel both would be a better choice. I'm sure it was a treat to meet Schwarzkopf. My youngest sister met Powell at the funeral of a General who served with him. Both impressive people, actually all three were impressive and I'd say better candidates for the position than Hegseth. My two cents.

And sorry, but I disagree with the Dept of War thing. I get it but think it's unnecessary. I'm enough of an old hippie that I'd rather see a Dept. of Avoiding War but I'll settle for defense.
Not my biggest worry.

It was pretty awesome... I met Schwarzkopf right after the first Persian Excursion. He was seriously being treated like a rock star, but he kept the focus on his men and the mission. Meh, I think Stormin Norman would look kindly on Hegseth tenure. He understood that not everything that matter can be measured.

I'm in agreement with you.. that's why reverting to its original name and intent is important. We haven't had a declaration of war since we changed the name.... how many American service members still died in harms way? Politicians are too free spending with their lives. I want it clear that we aren't spending Billions on defense.. we are spending Billions on War... which we should engage in only for our OWN benefit.
