Your argument appears to be either uninformed or homophobic.
Harvey Milk didn’t have a ship named after him because he was gay. He had a ship named after him became he is acknowledged as a civil rights leader.
In 2016 then Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus made the decision to name a series of John Lewis class oilers after civil rights leaders.
As I posted earlier those are the USNS Harvey Milk, USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, USNS Harriet Tubman, USNS Dolores Huerta, USNS Lucy Stone, USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers.
If you want to make the argument that civil rights leaders are not worthy of having naval ships named after them I think that is a valid argument. If you want to argue that Harvey Milk is unworthy just because he is gay, that is homophobic.
As I said earlier I don’t have a problem with this policy. Acknowledging the civil rights movement, in my opinion, is a worthy goal and naming a series of fleet oilers after civil rights leaders is a good way to honor them.
P.S. The John Lewis class of fleet oilers is named after John Lewis the civil rights leader.

The class of ships is named after the first ship of that type which is named the John Lewis. The Harvey Milk is the second ship of the class to be christened or at least it was until it was renamed.

From the wiki page:

The class is named for its lead ship, John Lewis, which is named for American politician and civil rights leader John Lewis. The remaining John Lewis-class oilers will be named after prominent civil rights leaders and activists. In 2025, the former Harvey Milk was renamed after Medal of Honor recipient Oscar V. Peterson. According to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, the action was to help the Navy align with the priorities of President Trump and to, "reestablish the warrior culture." The Navy clarified that no other ships in the class would be renamed.
If this is true then it would appear that the decision is solely based upon the fact that Harvey Milk is a LGBT civil rights leader. Seems pretty homophobic to me.
