Well at least there's a good reason why I'm confused about the whole "Am I grandfathered?" protocol.

Really the biggest reason I want to know is to avoid any misunderstanding because when money is involved, a misunderstanding often leads to bad feelings and suspicion.

I guess the take-away for me is to just ask while setting up the appointment. While asking the question makes me feel like a cheapskate, it's probably the right way to go.
