everything fits, massive self deception and everything else
but it is still shocking
I just need to keep in mind that yes it is true. people can really act like you do (didn't say actually believe what you profess but act as if you do)

Oh come on now, that's not very nice. I did watch the Avengers Civil War movie with my kids. I thought that movie was more realistic and imaginative than the civil war scenarios in this thread and I don't even believe in super heroes although I'll see many dressed as one tomorrow.

Wonder how many of our colleagues will be sitting in the back room with the porch lights off?
Or waiting on the porch for the little urchins.

At times I thought we were on ther brink of a genuine civil war during 2020.
I can understand the desire to remove many statues glorifying Southern "heroes". The movement to remove so many others is just proactive to many main-stream centrists though. . . .the "regular folks".
I am surprised that no one has seriously damaged the statues of George Floyd yet. I do not endorse that. These decisions to remove monuments should be made by elected or appointed civil authorities.
Yet, with the deep acrimony evidenced in 2020, I am surprised that no one has taken direct action on the Floyd monuments as has been done by activists of the anarchist liberal left.

If stupidity was all it took we'd already had a Civil war...but it takes a faith in something you're willing to die for.
These chickenshit right wingers won't even put their life on the line when they think babies are being murdered
Why would anyone believe they'd come out from behind their keyboards to fight supposed socialism

No, they would have to isolate the military from the rest of the population and feed them bullshit for some time so that when get questionable orders that they carry them out BEFORE they think about them. Once again, you make the mistake of thinking that a Civil War will be fought on the ground.
A modern civil war will be fought on the internet, TV, and other communication platforms. The idea is to co-opt your enemy and either get them to join your side or to stand down and do nothing. The latter is the most likely. The whole concept of domestic enemies is complicated. It depends on the perception of free and fair elections. The left idea of "I have the baton so I rule" doesn't really work in reality. The leaders like Milley may be political but the rank and file is not. They will support the elected leaders and if it becomes unsure who is really elected and who is just faking it, I think many will go back to the barracks and wait. The real leadership will have to remember China and Russia are the real enemies.

You know, if I was a leftist I would make fun of the fact that you offer up a comic book movie as an example but the movie was well done and covered some very important topics. The power of the state over the power of the people.
Captain America is the embodiment of the people and their will. He is good as evidenced that he could pick up Mjolnir.
Tony Stark was more complicated. He did not like government too much in his earlier movie where he claimed to have privatized national security. I think he had felt guilty for being a manufacturer of weapons for so many years and after Ultron and the destruction of a city, I think he was feeling pretty guilty about himself. I think his embrace of authority was a desire to be controlled.
Black Panther just had one goal and that was the murderer of his father and the US government was going to give that to him.
Black Widow was a bit of surprise but she came through in the end. She, better than anyone, knows how corrupt governments can become and the people working inside of them. Just because someone is from the government does not mean that they are right or on your side.
Spiderman and Antman were useful pawns. Spiderman was too young to know any better and he idolized Stark. Antman was anti-authority from the beginning.
War Machine was a good soldier meaning that he followed orders and he paid the highest price.
The Scarlet Witch also knows what totalitarianism looks and feels like. She chose the correct side.
Hawkeye, like the Black Widow, knows how bad governments can get.
The Falcon was a friend of Captain America, a former soldier, and on the receiving end of the shoddy treatment usually given our soldiers after the fighting is done.
Winter Soldier was treading on thin ice mentally. He was the target of Black Panther and a friend of Captain America. He chose his side accordingly.
The Vision followed orders like a tool until Wanda got hurt.
The power of the state versus the power of the people. The government is not the Constitution and that document is the embodiment of what this country is supposed to be. Some very smart people wrote that document after long consideration. They had experience with a coercive government and that wanted to prevent that in the future. We, the people, failed to maintain our elected officials in a state of fear, a fear of the people. Time to bring some of that fear back and we have. Our other job is to not go too far.

Too much comic book bullshit for me to keep reading. Not for me.
That said, your ability to think in the abstract gives me a fighting chance to change your mind.

And when do you see that happening because it sure as hell isn't now and I sure as hell don't see it in the near future. As a matter of fact, population shifts, as you well know, are headed in one direction only and that's Florida and Texas
https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/...mericas-future
Census confirms Texas and Florida are America's future
We suspected people were moving by the thousands to Texas and Florida. Now Washington has proof. The recent census results added two congressional seats to Texas and bolstered Florida's representation by one seat, while California and New York each lost a seat. American politics and culture are changing, and ground zero of that change is these two Southern states. Their trajectory will come to define the future of America.
As for a Civil War, that's already underway. It won't be with guns, like it or not, believe it or not, this Civil War will be contested and settled in Congress like it has been since the end of Civil War 1

At least one that has been reported
https://www.npr.org/2021/10/28/10500...ested-new-york
An actor has been charged with vandalizing a New York City statue of George Floyd
New York police have arrested a man in connection with the vandalism of a newly-unveiled statue of George Floyd earlier this month.
The New York City Police Department Hate Crimes Task Force announced on Monday that it had charged 37-year-old Micah Beals of Manhattan with second-degree criminal mischief.
I didn't condone defacing statues of Civil War participates and I don't condone this but if those mostly military men weren't the best representation of America, you're telling me a domestically violent, heavy drug user, petty criminal gets a statue, someone who best represents Americans? George Floyd was not a hero. Hell, he wasn't even a good role model for young Black males and he gets a freakin' statue?
In the future, someone not aware of the backstory asks "what did this person do to earn this honor"? Likely high on drugs he tried to pass a counterfeit $20, got caught, whined about it, acted a fool and was belligerent to the wrong person on that day.
But it does say a lot about America today. Sorry to say that the mostly forward motion of people like MLK towards bringing the races more closely aligned, has now been put in reverse. EVERYTHING now is race. We cannot continue, we can not survive on a path to Marxist indoctrination and make no mistake, that is exactly what is going on in American schools and people like Terry McCauliff, is the first test of whether this Marxist purge will continue.

Trump negotiated the Afgan withdrawal and she put herself in that position.
If I'm ever dumb enough to break into Congress chanting Hang Pence... I might be asking to be shot for stupidity. That is why she is dead....her stupidity
Or is this police brutality like the George Floyd crowd was crying about?
