Bullshit.... That's a cop out. leaving the Navy and pursuing a college degree in psychology was probably a mistake. You could have gotten credit for military training and a step up in life taking classes that led to a degree in mechanical or a variety of other engineering disciplines. It was a mistake not to pursue those while on active duty but could have been overcome. May still be possible.
Did you serve honorably and without incident? Coming out of the Navy after 6 years you should have had a solid and displayable level of reliability, a strong work ethic that included not only a displayed operational/repair/maintenance ability but also effective knowledge and appreciation for preventative maintenance needs. You also probably had a security clearance and the demonstrated ability to be trained that other young women even with college educations lack upon finishing school.
I had three offers when i was discharged based SOLELY on my ability to BE trained and my security clearances. Cheaper to hire and train me on something I had zero experience that to clear someone to the level I had. I know many that work in fields they never trained for on active duty after service.
That was a big chink of your life to squander making the wrong choices afterwards.

Well... I hate to be a downer on everything but a lot of people have chosen to take time and expend energy helping other's while dealing with their own issues and in turn found their way out of the darkness of depression. My 2nd wife had never dealt with her grief over the loss of her mother until she was "volunteered" for an internship in a Grief Camp for kids that had recently lost parents...... It scared her to have to because she believed she could not be effective..... but..... in taking what she had been taught (that she could not for some reason apply to herself previously) she found her way while helping others and that no longer had any control over her life.......
