I do it regularly because it does draw attention to the fact that a mistake was made and that the individual should read their PM's to get clarification to correct their mistake or stop something that they are doing.

Ok, and that is appreciated. But telling said person to read your PM's does nothing to inform everyone else what the mistake is so that they can know what is wrong and not make the same mistakes themselves.
