Oh, and now I know you are from Chicagoland, I will stop giving you shit. I understand you a lot better.
I lived right down the street from Lincoln park! I lived right across the street from Dunham park! I would walk from Dunham to Lincoln park at just 13 years old! Lol loved the city life! I still think my parents are crazy for letting me walk around Chicago so young, but I made it out alive and I'm not scared of little little rock lol

Lol glad you can understand us Chicago people! I'm a good mixture of Chicago and Arkansas that's why I'm the way I am! Lol no wonder and my Dad is from Serbia...so yea...lol Serbs are nuts!

I went to a highly overrated professional school in Chicago in the early 80s, and frankly the only redeeming feature of that city is Wrigley Field*; you could wipe the rest of the city off the face of the earth and I would be overjoyed (the school I attended was basically a gut-wrenching nightmare, so that may be affecting my judgement, at least a little ).

That said, at least the school (and the dorm that I lived in, all on Lake Shore Drive) were easy to get to from my home in St. Louis; I just got on I-55 North and it was a straight shot on 55 to LSD, and north to my school.

Cheers,

bcg

*At least I got to cut class on occasion to attend Cardinals-Cubs games at Wrigley, and my proudest achievement of that period was to wear a Cardinals cap in the bleachers at Wrigley and surviving to tell that tale.

Anyway, back to the original topic at hand, Little Rock. With Little Rock being considered one of the most dangerous mid-sized cities in the US (per capita) it would make sense to me that you would have better odds of getting raped, robbed, stabbed and/or your head blown off right here. I love my life and I don't take any chances with it

You must not have seen the part of downtown I ended up in because I was double checking my locks, had my Glock in my passenger seat and was still anxious lol. It just seems like things have gotten a lot worse around here recently. I'll stick to WLR!

As ladies in a society that has gone totally bananas, I just feel that we can never be too careful regardless of where we are. My grandfather always told me "people are people everywhere."

And to put that winning this year (and last year; remember the Cubs beat out the Cards in the playoffs) in perspective... From 2009-14 inclusive, the Cubs were always comfortably under .500. With the resulting high draft picks, Theo's been able to amass monster amounts of talent (focused primarily on hitting); so of course they're winning. We saw that over the horizon and headed towards us oh, about 2011 or so.

I consider myself suitably chastised.

To put your paranoia in perspective... you're a young white woman, and, judging from your postings here, from a
middle class background, apparently well educated, not involved in any serious criminal activity (i.e., drug dealing, theft/robbery/burglary, etc.), and you're not "managed" (AFAICT). The statistical likelihood of you being the victim of a serious crime against your person are pretty minimal, even if you live in such a "dangerous" city. (Also, the likelihood of you being the victim of a crime against your person perpetrated by a stranger is even less; you need to worry more about risks from your boyfriend/husband (if you have one, or whenever you acquire one) than from any strangers.)

But your .sig suggests you're planning to visit Memphis soon... LR ranks 16th most dangerous, and Memphis 6th most dangerous according to this ranking:

Top 100 Most Dangerous Cities in the U.S.

Thinking about changing your itinerary now?

Cheers,

bcg

Well I certainly apologize if you or anyone else feels chastised in anyway, as that was not my intent. But I am however still making a trip to Memphis. I have done a fair amount of research and am confident in the area I have chosen to stay. I will also be taking a paper map should my GPS fail me once again.

Good lord, I started this thread solely for the purpose of obtaining advice from people who know the Downtown area much better than myself and I can clearly see that it is going nowhere fast. I have the information I need and find this thread to no longer be relevant. Hope everyone has a lovely day
