Yep I worry too. And we don't know who they are. And then there are some providers who being desperate for cash break their own personal rules of engagement for a nice tip.

As the hobby has grown over the years the whole thing has turned into an unmonitored sex stew of people some of whom are health savvy and some not. What's more concerning is the definite drift toward more porn movie (PSE) activities in ads in order to 'out menu' other providers so as to snatch more biz for themselves. But the porn industry is medically monitored. This is not.

I wholeheartedly agree. I actually have a non working friend that has never used a condom in her life and she's 29 and has had dozens of sexual partners. Some of her escapades make me cringe. She simply takes her birth control and that's it.

Hepatitis and HPV also are believed to be passed at a similar rate regardless of gender, though condoms do offer protection.

Please check facts before taking anyone at their word about your risks and health. None of us are doctors, and you should really only trust the information that you get from a medical professional.
I agree with the vast majority of your posts. To add data to your point about condoms and herpes, they may mitigate as little as 30% of the risk (Martin et al, 2009). However, Herpes (HSV 1 and 2) incidence and specifically transmission are not equal between men and women according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC, 2010).

Quote:
http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/STDFac...s-detailed.htm

HSV-2 infection is more common among women than among men (20.9% versus 11.5% in 14 to 49 year olds). Infection is more easily transmitted from men to women than from women to men. HSV-2 infection is more common among non-Hispanic blacks (39.2%) than among non-Hispanic whites (12.3%) or Mexican Americans (10.1%). This disparity remains even among persons with similar numbers of lifetime sexual partners. For example, among persons with 2–4 lifetime sexual partners, HSV-2 is still more prevalent among non-Hispanic blacks (34.3%) than among non-Hispanic whites (9.1%) or Mexican Americans (13%). Most infected persons are unaware of their infection. In the United States, an estimated 81.1% of 14–49 year olds infected with HSV-2 have never received a clinical diagnosis

HSV-1 and HSV-2 can also be shed from skin that looks normal. In persons with asymptomatic HSV-2 infections, genital HSV shedding occurs on 10% of days, and on most of those days the person has no signs or symptoms. [4] Generally, a person can only get HSV-2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection. Transmission most commonly occurs from an infected partner who does not have a visible sore and may not know that he or she is infected
Back on topic though, it's unfortunate that there do not seem to be many population based studies on STD rates of sex workers/hobbyists as compared to norms. I personally agree with your assertion that rates could be lower despite higher numbers of sex partners because providers and the majority of clients despite stereotypes to the opposite are much more focused on safe sex than the average civilian population.

There was an interesting but small study conducted in Australia where they had mandatory STD screenings for their legalized sex worker industry. Rates of incidence of all STD's among those taking part in the study were found to be lower than population norms (Lee et al, 2005). The study was too small to be of real statistical significance and it did not take into account the total numbers of partners, but I thought it was interesting.

I think we're all 'whistling in the dark' in this hobby. It's less than perfectly sate but considerably better than the worst. Read reviews before the meeting (ie, actually look what the reviews say about her menu and what she does), at the meeting look at the physical body of who you are with. Think with your big heads guys and gals. We owe that to each other. Doesn't matter how horny you are. Like Ronnie Reagan said, "trust but verify"

This is an important topic because the more we know about the transmission risks, the more we can prevent the spread of infections. Some may want to stick their head in the sand and act like it's pot luck who gets an STD, but we can help ourselves by informing others about safe practices.

I'd guess that STD risks pretty much are equal (overall) inside and outside of the hobby.

I think the high risk streetwalkers and johns are evened out by others who use condoms and practice safer sex 95-100% of the time.

While their civilian counterparts combine truly monogamous partners with little to no sexual history and other civilians who regularly "hook up" with no condoms.

Seems like that basically evens out the odds...

If its wet, its infectious, that includes LFK and DFK.
My concern, and Just my "OPINION" is that most people wont go get tested UNTIL they are showing signs. A lot of people walk around not knowing they have something.
How many people in the hobby would be totally honest if they did have something?

I just got results from my full STD test yesterday and it come back negative for everything. The point I am trying to make is that I was actually nervous about it until the results came in

I can only recall 3 times where someone self-reported they got on STD on the boards. Therefore, we must be very immune to STD's if they are hooker board members.

NOT!

Using the statistics found online and thinking things out to their logical conclusion, I highly doubt anyone would take themselves out of the game because they got an incurable STD like HPV, HSV, HEP A,B,C, or HIV. The ladies need the money and have few other job skills. The guys are not going to give up their sexual addictions; they will be reduced to fucking hookers to avoid unpleasant conversations.

Case in point:
There was a recent article about a heavy metal rocker who committed suicide and was an Eccie member. He died with full blown AIDS, Hep C, HPV, Herpes, and Chlamydia. The TTarrant county DA had indicted him for knowingly infecting 2 girlfriends and trying to infect people at a FW strip club/ brothel. He was quoted as "laughing at the Eccie fucks" who were fucking the same girls he was trying to infect.

A very good source of information except about HIV in the US. however, the AA population is experiencing a high increase in the number of infections in the U.S.

Teens are the number 1 risk group.
Sex Workers and their patrons are the number 2 risk group.
Often times, these groups overlap.
There is no valid reason I can see to proclaim board members are safer. We certainly all know a lot of barebacking goes on in our little world.

5 out of 5 men agree that semen cures everything. Ask any man and he will tell you swallowing semen is a natural cure for just about everything. (That be a joke, folks). However, stomach acids are highly inhospitable to viruses. The mouth and soft tissues of the throat are good environments, especially if oral hygiene is lacking and sores or bleeding gums are present.

Bottom line is we are the high risk group. Your mom, your grandma, and and your granddad are included in those stats on the CDC. They are the lower risk group.

A special note about HEP C:

The virus wasn't discovered until 1991 and a test wasn't available until 1993. The blood supply was tainted. If you were born between 1945 and 1965, you are at a higher risk for having Hep C. Approximately 4 million people in the U.S. in that age group have Hep C and do not know it. It has little to no symptoms until it attacks your liver and does damage, often time cirrhosis.

The good news is there are now anti-viral pills that cure 80-90% of the cases in about 8 weeks. Previously the cure rate was less than 40% and involved the use of chemotherapy for a year.

Sorry for the length of this post. I think it is important that we do not believe we are safe simply because we are centralized on the Internet. there is no logic to support that train of thought.

My momma always said, Hobby is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Anyway, whatever you get, it is sure going to be sweet on the tongue for the moment. What you find out few weeks later is of course another issue.

I would agree with Alyssa (post #2), if you know that you are doing something dangerous , if you are smart person, you take extra precaution. I know some take more risk for more pleasure. Since you have no control over others' risky behaviors, the best is to protect yoruself at all time. Last time I seen a provider is over three years ago. When I was venturing out I was seeing up to three providers sometimes, but I never had anything uncovered including BJ regardless of how healthy or unhealthy a provider looks. Just not worth the risk.
