It was nice to see us hitting 3's today. Nice OT win against I-State. Mo Bamba is a flat out beast. He is much better than the other big men we had as Freshman like Miles Turner and that flop from last year that went pro after 1 year.

I was watching the football game and flipped over. You do realize that this is his only year at Texas right? Texas got lucky by io st taking a bad shot before time ran out in regular time.

Texas will finish right around io st when its all said and done.

Do you get on your knees for all the texas coaches?

At least miles turner got rid of the buckwheat haircut.

If getting in the tournament is the goal, then why get a new coach? Nearly half of the teams make the tournament. It’s very much like “let’s make a bowl game” when there are 40 bowls.
Texas is ranked #35 in the BPI which is used by the NCAA selection committee in selecting the 36 at-large teams to the tournament. UT has lost to Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga and Michigan which are ranked 5, #4, #9, and #30. And the losses to Duke and Gonzage were in OT. So all their losses have been to quality teams. Iowa State is ranked #88. Alabama #51. Butler #41. So I would say that UT has played up to their capabilities thus far.

There are 347 D-1 basketball teams. 68 make the NCAA tournament. That is 19.5%. 32 of the 68 teams qualify by winning their conference tournament. That leaves 36 at-large teams to be chosen by the tournament committee. So only 11% of the non-conference winners make the tournament. Quite less than "nearly half".

Teams change coaches for various reasons, usually to improve their team's play. Obviously not all teams have the same recruiting power -- Duke and Kentucky are able to recruit far different athletes than say Texas Southern -- so the end goal for each team is different. If Duke and Kentucky do not make at least the Elite 8 each year, they have not succeeded in their fans eyes. Most of the 347 D-1 schools will consider reaching the Elite 8 a fantastic accomplishment.

Every team wants to make the NCAA tournament. The 2nd most popular BB tournament at the end of the season is the NIT, commonly known as the "loser's tournament". I have gone out on a limb and predicted UT has a legitimate shot to make the NCAA tournament.

The FCS schools that make the tournament are the winner of the conference and the second place team gets a invite to the nit. None get an outlarge bid.

There is no FCS/FBS in NCAA basketball. All 347 schools are D-1. There are also D-2 and D-3 schools. Many D-1 conferences only get their tournament champion into the NCAA tournament. Such conferences are the Atlantic Sun, Colonial Athletic, Horizon, Ivy League, Mid-Eastern, and Northeast. Conferences like the Big 10, Big 12, ACC, PAC 12, and Southeastern sometimes get 75% of their schools into the NCAA tournament.

Currently 7 of the 10 Big 12 schools are predicted to be in the NCAA tournament.

Fcs are the same as mid majors. They don’t get into the tournament unless they win the conference

I only get on my knees for the hot bitch blond womens coach Karen Anston. They had a nice win tonight. I'm glad for your participation on the sports thread but have to say. You don't seem like a Longhorn fan. "HOOK EM!"

Same but FCS is not used in NCAA basketball terminology. Depending on the definition of "mid-major", 3 conferences outside of the 6 major conferences (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 12, Big East, and SEC) had more than 1 team selected for the tournament -- Atlantic 10 had 3, American and WCC had 2 each.

Being a Tech fan,

Super excited to see Coach Beard's impressive 3-0 start on conference play. Truth will be revealed playing OU and later on West Virginia.

It's been a while since TT has been a force to be reckoned with in Big 12 basketball. Fantastic turn around.

Great win over # 16 TCU. They are really good which I'm not used to. Very sad news about Andrew Jones getting Lakeimia.

Terrible news about Andrew Jones. A lot of sympathy coming from teammates, UT players in other sports (great video), other coaches in the league, and fans. Let's hope for the best.

It was a tearjerker watching that video of the all the other UT teams talking to him. Girls volleyball, swim team etc....Has any player ever come back from Lukermia? Is it a sure death sentence? Truly a horrible horrible thing for this young man with his promising life ahead of him.

Not a death sentence. 60% of males his age are fine. As far as playing, that’s kind of a dumb comment. I’m sure he will if he is able to but it certainly won’t be this year. Chemo will be several months long and it just depends on how his body takes it.

TCU was fools gold. They have the same conference record as Baylor who beat Texas. Next week should be fun for Texas.
