I agree. Any electoral process that lasts almost as long as the term of office is totally ridiculous. The time, money and nastiness involved also discourage many worthy candidates. This particular election is made even worse with the presence of "unlimited" super PAC money.

Since NY is not a battleground state, we are actually very lucky to be spared the endless, nauseating TV attack ads that other places are being subjected to.

Default DAMN Now I'M RANTING!!!

John,

I couldn't agree with you more on the waste that the political process entails of both person hours and financial resources. But thats only a small part of the problem!

Imagine if you will that the BILLIONS that are being spent to elect a person president were poured into research and development or rebuilding infrastructure ... how amazing could things actually be?

Now lets look at the incredible waste that we see in other areas of government and picture if you will the incredible savings that this would provide for the American people!

Ranting? No! What you, Jack, and others are saying is what the media and the American People need to be shouting from the roof tops! The folks that sit in protest, the Occupy Wall Street crew, the ladies and gentlemen who condemn the waste and corruption that exists in politics are the ones that (1) need to be heard and (2) need to encourage others to speak out!

I don't care whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, a conservative or liberal, a moderate, a radical, a tree hugger or a fence sitter, each of us has a responsibility to speak out and to demand that the folks we elect do their jobs!

Stand up or sit down ... the choice is yours! But if you don't want to be part of the solution ... then you are most certainly a continuing cause of the problem!

If you chose not to vote ... then you perpetuate the problem rather than help to address the issues that plague this nation!

Its sad that politicians continue to push to establish laws that impose their moral framework on the rest of us...laws in my opinion are not in existence to regulate all of our personal preferences wants and desires according to the moral code of the President and party in power. I thought laws were in existence to protect us all so we can preserve our individual liberties and pursuit of happiness, as well as to create a society that can function without imploding. The more we establish laws regulating what is moral and not moral, the more we begin to sound more like a Dictatorship than a Democracy. But I guess I am just a dreamer!'

On another note, while I am ranting....the other item that disturbs me about this whole election process is the astronomical amount of time, resources, and money that is expended on a ridiculously long election process when those scarce resources could be applied to more productive and critical matters. Its not like there are not enough such items to focus on in this country. Just think of what we could accomplish by redirecting funds and man-hours" to the issues of this nation. By comparison, Canada can elect someone in about a month so I understand, and England in a few months....why we spend half the term of a President dealing with election/re-election matterse

I want to turn on the news and have more than 50 percent of the airtime covering more than Santorum, Romney, Obama etc.....but again, wishful thinking.

Ok, I done!

Rock on with the discussion...
That place is a madhouse. Hell, there's basically an effin' Nazi posting in one of the threads now.

As for Santorum, I don't see him winning on this platform. At least, I hope not.

For years I've read and watched how the Neo-Socio-Conservatives have taken over the Republican Party..peverted it...yes...Republicans used to be about business and making money...but the old fashion ones...understood you had to have people making enuff to buy the things their companies made...but todays Republicans have forgotten that...thing that everyone can keep buying with nothing...salaries are stagnent..cost of living increases are disappearing...so what do they have left to offer!?!?

Saving us from evil deeds from the neo-fascist-socialist-muslim loving Obama administration..that class warfare loving, income redistributing black guy...

Rick Santourum wants to bring GOD back into our lives...funny...i didnt know he was out of my life in the first place...he wants to bring Christins values back to goverment...wait...no Catholic values...even claims then JFK's saying the seperation of church and state must be absolute...made him want to vomit....

Ok...the point of my rant is....no one is asking Rick Santourum...who his moral compass is being guided by....in the sixties...JFK caused fear tht since he was a Catholic...he'd follow Rome's lead...since the makes Ricki want to vomit...does that mean HE will follow Rome's lead?!?!

Not that I don't love porn, but man would it be nice to see the media report on a real issue and see some of these candidates tell us something they can actually be accountable for. I don't think Obama has done a great job, but one thing he did was make some pretty bold promises when he was running. He didn't live up to all of them, but he also had a lot of opposition from Congress. I'd like to see someone from the Republican party take that kind of stand.
