Hard to imagine, but from what I've read they weren't even that well armed for the first world war (same rifle, just fewer of them). And things didn't change until after Stalin died. From what I understand he pushed the bid for a new rifle to Simonov's SKS instead of Kalashnikov's AK47 because he didn't want to waste money on removable magazines the peasants would loose. Needless to say, the decision was re-considered once Uncle Joe went to (hopefully) his just rewards.

Bean counters have always been an issue, if Lincoln hadn't interceded the yankee invaders wouldn't have gotten repeating rifles, likewise entire warehouses full of BARs went unissued in WW1 because some bureaucrat was afraid the Huns would capture one and copy it, or so I heard.

Sadly it is insidious, because often the perpetrators are not even aware they are merely in the grips of a full on egomaniac attack which is perfectly fostered by the conditions that are ripe for the spread of socialism: Leaders shrug and say: "I saw a need and filled it."

They prey on the needs of society. Get the trains to run on time and make the lines for bread shorter and you are a hero. . .until it is too late.

If you have ever muttered the phrase: "there oughta be a law. . ." you are a carrier of the disease of socialism.

If you ar ein the hobby: Libertarian is the only way to fly!

I think that Elisabeth Noelle-Neuman would take issue with those of you that want to see socialism as an economic system, rather than an ideology of social control. The socialist concern for the economy is mostly limited to the ability to control the economy so that you can control the populace.

At the core of socialism is the the fundamental belief that an individual's behavior is shaped and managed by the social environment. Control the substructure of the social environment and you control ideas.
Now shut up and go along with the spiral of silence. . .

Dude. Stop smoking that shit. Peer out of your blinds and you'll notice there are no, I repeat 'no', unmarked cars outside your driveway. Turn off the Tv. Put down the Turner Diaries, and go get some fresh air and mingle with the rest of the normal populace. Heck, go vote and see your lack of control at work.

Are you flirting with Camille and me? I've shared drinks with Camille. She is every bit as beautiful to look at as her mind is to listen to.

Not only that, Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann (two n's) is an known anti-Semite who wrote of the U.S. media "Jews write in the paper, own them, have virtually monopolized the advertising agencies and can therefore open and shut the gates of advertising income as they wish." That anyone in 2010 would seriously quote a protege of Goebbels is shocking.

goebbel-goebbel (couldn't find a turkey emoticon)

Dammit, TTH, there you go again - introducing inconvenient ideas like the philosophy underlying impartial, scholarly observation. Guess the pinko, liburral, unamurrican, weirdo lefties don't have a monopoly after all on subtle subversions...lol. Way to go!

Now, someone's just gotta point out that while National "Socialism" was the name, fascism was the game. It would be a great idea to hand out copies of "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," except for the fact that some would mistake it as a handbook to save our country. They might even dig up Pius XII for a little religious back up.

That's because I stay within their bounds. But they are useful for cross examination of others.

The whole problem in a nut shell is that as a country we are headed for self destruction. The tea party movement sounds good and all, and the people that support it have the right ideas, but the fact is unless you can change at least 75% of the politicans during one election cycle change will never come. Think about it, congressmen/women serve for alternating 2 year terms, senators serve for alternating 6 year terms, and the president serves for 4 years. There is a point every 8-12 years or so where you have a whole cycle of senators, congress members as well as president up for election at once. This is the best chance society has to infiltrate Washington with the most like minded politicans to change things. The problem is we always listen to our own senators and congressman when they say its the other guys not me, and we wind up re-electing people who have made a career from politics. The only thing that will save this country is a collapse, and revolution, but I am affraid when that happens what we knew of the U.S. will never exist again.
