To Plagiarize a phrase.... "What goes on in the hobby, stays in the hobby."

So far as encountering a provider I don't make a move unless the lady acknowledges me first. Since I'm flying solo there's little chance of any family being around for me to explain anything to.

The only problem I ever ran into was while attending M&Gs back in Ohio. Twice I ran into other hobbyists that I knew in civie life and had worked with in the past. Both times I quoted the above phrase. It's a risk that we all take on and accept the consequences of being "outed".

There's no one else outside of the "community" that'll protect us. Having reviews and alerts is what makes sites like ECCIE and others a value. For the Hobbying Outlaws this is our "Hole in the Wall".

I was at a lunch get together with people from work at a large cafeteria away from the office. It is a fairly large organization, and I didn't really know everyone's name, but quite a few of them were people I see in the hallways fairly often.

We were trying to catch people's attention as they got their food and wandered back into the eating area so they'd find the group. I saw a guy who I recognized vaguely, so I waved at him, trying to get his attention. It wasn't until later I realized he was a fellow hobbyist, not a coworker.

Yes ..I have run into couple of people ...

Best is to .... Pretend not to know them...you never know if their significant other is close or they work at that place...... Is the professional courtesy ....

Except for you F2C I will come and give you a peck on the lips ..if I see you ...lol

M, you want me to become unrestricted, I know :-)

But you'll get the same treatment: "THX, but unfortunately I am not the famous bad guy ...."

I had this happen to me at Wallyworld one afternoon. I was shopping with my SO and this fella looks at me and says hi. I looked at him and said "Do I know you?" (In my defense it is hard for me to recognize folks with their clothes on, I had this same problem with the strippers I worked with) He looked at me and smiled, and "yeah, I have been to your house." Then it hit me. I was speechless. So I said nice to see you have a good day and turned and walked away. My SO was looking at something else and didn't see the encounter. I told my SO about it later. To be honest, it threw me off, and I was surprised at how uncomfortable it made me. My SO just kinda laughed it off. One other time I was recognized in the RW was when I was walking down the street in SF and a long time regular saw me with my SO at the time. We saw each other and there was a twitch of a smile, but that was it. He called me the next day and was super cool. He told me that he didn't say anything cause he saw me with someone else and respected my space. So awesome. My feelings are this, if I see someone from the hobby world, I usually turn and walk away. These are two separate worlds. Yes my SO knows what I do, but I feel as though the two worlds should not collide. Good topic, thanks!

It has happenned several times for me. The most recent was in Cru with a large group for a wine tasting and dinner and I looked up and at the bar was someone that I recognized. She was also not alone. We made eye contact and smiled at one another shyly and went on with our activities!!!

No one in the room knew it but the two of us and that's how it should be each and every time an encounter such as that one occurs.
