I agree with the other follow up comments... A hobbyist in this market would only get away with that once.

After 4 years in the hobby, I still believe that most people are inherently good, and that honest service will be repaid in kind, with honest payment.

I don't agree. I don't know or keep record of the CC numbers of my clients -- in fact, many of my clients swipe it themselves, and I never look at anything except the name on the card for verification of account ownership & the expiration date. All I get afterwards is a dated electronic receipt with their signature, a transaction number and the last 4 digits of the card.
I've taken CC's as payment on many occasions, without incident.
And while I won't specify exactly what my billing shows up as...let's just say it's something that's classified as general retail and can easily be justified as a repeat transaction without alarming a SO.
