For anyone who doesn't know, OP just got TWO new BBQ joints... And there's another, part of a chain that wasn't on the list...
There's "Dickies BBQ" in OP, just south of 120th on Metcalf... It's in the strip mall behind the Sonic.
Plus a "Famous Dave's" at the NE corner of 119th & Metcalf, at the edge of the Walmart parking lot.
And finally, they just opened a new Oklahoma Joe's BBQ in the Hen House parking lot at 119th & Roe. A friend was heartbroken today when she learned that OK Joes are all closed on Sunday! She REALLY wanted to try their food!

The next time you come in, you MUST try the burnt ends at Oklahoma Joes (though LC's are incredible too). What they do at OK Joes is cook the full brisket as a single piece, with both the point and the flat (the part most people recognize as the brisket) are smoked together for about 12 hours or so. But once finished, they cut off the point, apply more of their dry rub, and put the point back into the smoker for another 8 hours, and they only make them a couple of times a week, and they ALWAYS sell out.
I'm not as crazy about OK Joe's sides or sauce as their meats. Oh, and you MUST try the sausage at OK Joes!

Duck - too bad you didnot get back sooner. OKie Joes is leading right now but too late to add to the list right now.

Hi SS!
I've never actually "eaten at" an OK Joes. They've always got lines well outside the doors when I've gone. You can bypass the lines by calling in for take out. Holy cow, their meats are incredible! And I do mean all of them! But no matter what I get when I go there, I also buy some extra sausage to have at home, for all sorts of purposes... Dirty rice, for breakfast with eggs, or just to munch on!
Now I REALLY NEED to hit OK Joes... And IIRC, Monday is one of the days they do their burnt ends!

Rosedale is still the best.

Last year I picked up Q from one of my favorite places, (Rosedale). On the way to meet friends I called ahead, and more people were there than I planned. So, i swung by Wyandot 2 at 75th and Metcalf. With the two different Bar-B-Qs side by side - Wyandot didn't make anyone's list. It was obvious the two were different sources.

Dickies is a chain; it's basically fast food. Big sandwiches, but the BBQ isn't much to talk about.

I agree, Dickies isn't that good. However, there are two bright spots on their menu. I don't know if they still have it, but they had a spicy sausage that was pretty good, and I really like their loaded baked potato casserole.
But you're right, their BBQ is rather lame.

Most underrated isn't on the list - Brobeck's in Leawood. It's excellent, one of my favorites.
Jack Stack? Please. If you can't smell the smoker, it ain't a barbecue restaurant.

JR - this may go back to the seasoning of the equipment too!
Thanks to all that voted. I was trying to so a summary last night but Eccie crashed. Will finish up later today.

Hard to beat the original. Arthur learned from Henry Perry, who brought barbecue up to Kansas City from Texas in the early 1900's. So did Ollie Gates' dad.
