I like it. Two episodes in and I am into it. However, the night battles are a tad too dark for me.
One question: Was the runner (think his name was something ethnic, like hispanic or something) killed by friendly fire? I was only half-ass watching and I think I missed what happened, but the look on the two soldiers afterward made me think I might have missed something.

I think so, cuz he was running behind the lines
I will watch again on demand
Also I sat down and watched the 5 minute story on the 5 main characters thats on HBOon demand. makes sense more when I think about the first 2 episodes. Joe Basilone is a true Marine, hard charger!!
If you Wiki him he is interesting
By the way the character(Eugene Sledge) who kept having his dad check his heart for his irregular heartbeat to get in the corp in episode 1 & 2 is the guy who wrote the book that Pacific is based on.

I'm loving this show, and I'm in for the duration. The reviews often mention that it starts slow and picks up steam. Visually, it's spectacular. My Dad is WWII vet, and we're losing too many of these amazing men every day.

I thought it was enemy fire. They mention it briefly during the show when they are shifting Machine gun positions, and if you read the book/history there was a group Japanese that broke through the lines and wreaked havoc for a day or so while they were hunted down in the jungle. Even though it was only 10 or so minutes in the show, the actual Battle for Henderson Field lasted like 3 days straight.

yes, the world's greatest generation. My dad help design the the B29 that dropped the A bomb
we piss and moan about losing 3-4000 over what 5 years in Iraq when on D-Day we lost over 10,000 in one battle
I think MacArther was a weany, the navy and marinaes did all the fighting and let him come in sally come lately to retake the Phillipines
In Korea, he did some good things, thanks to Chesty

Seriously though guys, I cry when I watch that series. It is just so emotional for me to see this. It needs to be shown in schools actually and kids need to see what cray people like Hitler, Mussolini and others can do!
The one thing that surprised me was how small our Army was before we got hit at Pearl Harbor. When World War II was just coming to be. Amazing!

I love Private Ryan and BOB. I'll wait until the DVD set comes out to watch Pacific.

I saw it tonight (technical difficulties prevented me from seeing it last night). It was a good episode. Lots of character development. I feel like I am getting to know the guys now.

The Pacific is based on books by Eugene Slede and Robert Leckie.

Did anyone see last nights episode? It seemed to be meandering... and the series seems to just focus on Lucky. I don't think this series is as good as BoB.
