... Blimey! ... Surely would seem that a good number of
American Presidents have used tariffs to great advantage.
... Just as President Trump is doing now. ...

Your posts never contain any substance.

There has always been a tariff war going on, I don't know that there ever was time there wasn't one.
Most countries replaced true tariff wars with other types of bans based on things based on safety etc.
Most of this never gets covered by major news sourcess as they don't think it effects most people or they don't understand the situation and are too lazy to research facts

^^^And the tariffs were all against the USA by other nations protecting their industry. President Trump is just pushing back on that.

How about some examples of these “wars?”
Don’t forget those based on safety and stuff.
Please and thank you.

Trump is responsible for the current tariff war.
Wonder why the MAGAs can't admit that, and continue to dodge by posting irrelevant information....
Now the farm soybean sector is in crisis, Americans are paying tariffs, businesses have lost jobs, and some economists are looking for a recession on the way. Trump folded up with China and ended up begging China to resume buying soybeans (last purchase was in May of this year).

That poster lacks in providing any credible information about markets, or anything else.
With him, it is always "lies of Democrats". There are many reports about the current soybean market over the last month. I doubt he has read any of them.

The problem is you know nothing about markets, much of the info is behind pay walls on sites, you believe every lie that is spoon fed you, and you don't question anything that Democrats tell you.

My recollection is that a number of countries began "dumping" steel I=on the US market during the 1970s . . .that is, selling steel here at or below their cost of production. The major actor at that time was Japan which impeded imports to the point of exclusion with tariffs and other regulatory barriers. There was no way to offset Japanese car imports to the USA with export to Japan of Fords and Chevies or any other automoti=ve product. At a different level, when aluminum baseball bats were first brought out, their export to Japan was prohibited by tariffs. . .till the Japanese sporting industry figured out how to copy them.
Those trade wars. . . .and many others.
These mon-tarif barriers are also part of the Trump administration's negotiations.

I don't recollect that from 50+ years ago, hence the request for documentation.

ICU is right
During the 1970s, the countries primarily accused of
"dumping" steel on the U.S. market were Japan and nations within the European Community (EC), including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Italy.
