Ben Franklin-
"Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins". Another one is: "If all printers were determined not to print anything till they were sure it would offend nobody, there would be very little printed".
Thomas Jefferson:
"Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter".
During the reign of Henry the Eighth, a high-spirited monarch, every light expression, which happened to displease him, was construed by his supple judges into a libel, and sometimes extended to high treason.
When the government is left without the check of a press or to confirm that statements and actions were factual- they would simply do releases of statement that would reflect ONLY the reining power- and not reality.
But- Here we are- where this GOP led government is saying- "you can only print what we say or else." We will not only take our ball and make you go home, but we will determine if what you say is libel or actionable, fine-able, or imprisonable.
WTF- The press is not only essential for communication with the public for the purpose of holding power in check, but also to gain a voice of both consideration and condemnation when government ideas go awry.
Tariff boi and project 2025 is a damned disgrace.
This aggression will not stand dude.

The pentagon papers ruling is authoritative in this instance insofar as it deems unconstitutional the government’s authority to keep the press from publishing despite the classification of the information it contains.
DUI Hegseth wants the press to sign binding documents that limit the right of the press to publish. If New York Times Co. v. United States, 403 U.S. 713 (1971) is to be followed what Hegseth wants is unconstitutional.

Maybe Pete is trying to preempt the leak of the Pentagon watchdog’s report on Hegseth’s use of Signal?

Press shouldn’t be in the pentagon, at all.

It’s a privilege not a right. Heggy will end up telling the deep state fraudsters to fuck off and kick them out altogether.

He was nominated by the president and approved by Congress. He is every bit or more qualified as anyone to ever hold the position, your butthurt notwithstanding.

You can have whatever opinion you want. Enlisted men all over the world love the guy, and those are the men who matter. Not you, not me, the ones down range.
I do find it funny your constant use of DUI hire, thinking it’s a clever slight. It only makes it clear you haven’t spent much time with guys who fight for a living, the power drinkingist crowd who’ve ever roamed the earth. That shit, at times literally, is worn like a badge of honor.
