Not sure a comparison of Monterrey to a border town has any validity. I think I would feel safer in some interior places I have been in Mexico than any border town. (I didn't feel that safe in the border towns 20 years ago when I was having to travel there.)

agreed, I was just saying that in ANY city you can find trouble without much effort.

That casino the cartel just torched/shot up, right in a very affluent part of Monterrey, but its not as common as border towns. I have a friend stationed in San Diego who makes TJ runs all the time, he wouldnt trade it for the world. However his experience may be totally different than yours, just law of averages says more exposure to risk= greater chance of encountering that risk. He's been going once a month at least for a couple years with no issues.

Now when I was down near McAllen, even the Texas side felt scary as hell.

According to recently reports, Juarez is the #1 and Monterrey #2 of the worst cities this year so far in Mexico. Most of the places in Mexico are unsafe because of the war between all groups, they are fighting against each other to take control of the drugs business. Tijuana is like any border city, it could be worst at night, that dosn't mean during the day they are safer, just watch out for what you do and where you go. Taxi from San Diego could be the best choice and keep your eyes wide open.

Did not have a single problem. Cab driver tried to sell me a iphone 4 for $50 (yeah sure amigo) but other than that nothing to worry about. Look forward to going back and having another lil mexican chick

TJ is the best - they have the finest girls. And it's safe. I can tell you the stories. I wanna go back so bad.

I have been to TJ twice this year and each time has been awesome. A beautiful Chica overnight in a 4 star hotel for only three bills, tough to beat.

The key rule is if you look like a victim, you will become one, and if you act like an ass, you will get messed up.

Look up mexicolindobar or cumintj or some of the other agencies. They take great care of you and will provide a ride to and from one of their hobby hotels.
