Every state has political issues that can be hard to take. For every person who believes as you do, there are people who believe the opposite.

In this state there are things that I agree with you on, and that I disagree with you on.

Doesn’t mean we are not still Americans, and can still get along without vitriol.

Oh, I don’t know….a lot of states are becoming over restrictive. Idaho will now jail people leaving the state for legal medical help in other states, Tennessee is attempting to remove elected officials from office for exercising their right to peaceful protest, Florida has begun persecuting corporations for expressing their right to voice opinions……

It’s everywhere, and at some point, we need to stop all this insanity being perpetrated by BOTH sides.

If you like high crime and half your paycheck going to people's entitlements that don't want to work or spit out kids for a check then NYS is a great place to live!

Psst...

Respectfully-- a person making 50k/year will shell out approximately 75 cents out of every paycheck for welfare and entitlements. Most of your taxes goes towards corporate welfare, not personal.

I currently live in Cincinnati, which currently "boasts" a murder rate per capita higher than Chicago. Pandemic turned this city upside down.

As to everything else---

I don't mind winter. I know that moving to the Roc is going to take me back to the land of lake effect snow (I lived in Cleveland for a bit when I was younger).

Ed-- "close to Connecticut" isn't likely unless I end up slotted in Atlantic City or NYC. I wouldn't mind Atlantic City-- cost of living is actually comparable to here-- NYC would be great except-- where in the hell would I afford to live? LOL. They'd have to double my salary for me to keep the same lifestyle.. and I'm not even sure if that would suffice, that's just what the calculators tell me. I know I'd get a chunkier raise if I ended up in NYC but-- I don't think it'll be chunky enough. From what I've been told by others--if I move to Roc.. I'll be in the 85k-95k band. I "think" NYC would put me around 110-- it just wouldn't be enough, I don't think. And while I could certainly entertain a gentleman or two-- my work doesn't afford me the time for that like I used to have.

I really do appreciate all the tidbits, tips, etc I've been getting both publicly and privately--but could we please not turn this into a political debate? I know the implications of moving to a state that is either Red or Blue.

I’m pretty sure if we look hard enough we can always find a reason to be offended. I personally love the Rochester area. Lots of jobs lots of affordable housing great access to medical and great schools. You will love Rochester especially if you can find a place to live a little south of the city. Good luck

Shout out to Canandaigua. Beautiful area in the great state of New York.
For the bellyachers who complain how horrible NYS is, move. I guarantee that in less than 3 hours and 17 minutes of living in the "better" state you'll be complaining about living there too.

Didn't one mod (Grace) already say this in HER thread or did The Good Doctor think we needed to have it reiterated by him, in the very next post, so we'd take it seriously??

Hmmmmmm...sometimes your intrusion isn't required. Just sayin'...

She is contemplating a move to the Rochester area. Offering insight from someone that travels often and has lived here for over 50 years. If I could move I would in a heartbeat.

Not being political just honest. Rochester is my home but it is a shithole! Crime is awful. It is dirty. Roads and bridges are in deep decline. Good thing for Uber or public transportation would be terrible. Some outlying (Suburban) schools are very good. City Schools are a mess (Not just a Rochester problem) but still a problem. So yes with the high taxes should all of the issues be so bad? NO. That is just a fact. For those of you that like to live with your heads in the sand and can't take honesty I do not know what to tell you.

I travel all over. This is not an everywhere problem.

I wish the OP all the best in her search. Be diligent in your search and good luck!

Way back in the day Monroe County was the richest per capita county in the country. Can't imagine where it ranks now. Today it's one of the most highly taxed.
