I usually just need help falling asleep. My doctor gives me 1mg xanax to take.
But I hear those can be hard to get. He won't give me ambien, and I'm afraid of the sleep walking that might happen.

I haven't experienced any particular bad side effects from it, except that sometimes I don't feel well-rested in the morning. For that reason, I'm trying to use it less. I don't personally find it particularly habit forming, but the trap you can fall into is taking it every night before bed whether you really need it or not. Try not to do that.

Drugs have a Brand name and a generic name. Zolpidem Tartrate is the generic name. In this particular case, Ambien is simply the Brand name, marketed by that drug company. There are other brand names of Zolpidem Tartrate that are virtually identical. Just like Eliquis is the brand name, apixaban is the generic name.
OP, have you tried taking OTC melatonin? 5 mg will take me down like a tall pine being harvested for lumber.

Not trying to give medical advice, but please know Xanax is highly addictive.

Get thee to a Primary Vare Physician. Not having a regular doc is nuts. I have a relative who had good insurance and "didn't like going to the doctor". Refused well doc visits, and went to doc in the boxes when sick. Looked up recently and had foot pain. Doc asked "Are you diabetic?" He says, "No." Doc says, "Are you sure? You have an ulcer the size of a peach on your foot." A1C is sky high. Ends up on IV Vancomycin. Doesn't work. Has his leg amputated and is now fighting post op infections that could well turn into sepsis and kill him.

Ambien is so bad, I've known multiple people that had bad experiences with that, including people close in my family. I used to take Trazadone 50mg, definitely puts you to sleep but it gave me major headaches waking up. Everyone reacts to medication different though. Now I just smoke the treeeeee Lmao

Best thing to do is get some exercise. Whenever i have sleeping problems its usually because I'm not getting enough exercise. I take the occasional swig of NyQuil but definitely don't make sleeping aids a habit.

That's what happens when folks don't go to the doc.

Yeah, one might say they lost their footing, or no longer a leg up.

Melatonin does nothing for me if I have something on my mind. If I'm tired and wind down properly I think it helps but it also makes me tired in the morning. It's hard to get the right amount and I have even tried the GNC timed release Sleep Answer stuff.
I don't want to become Elvis or Michael Jackson but damn it's hard to sleep the entire night through.

I take Zolpidem 12.5 every night as I have insomnia. When I get it refilled the pharmacy requires my DL. As for side effects, depends on the person as well as taking as prescribed.
Go to a Dr. and tell them what is going on and I bet they can help you out.
