i was going to do the math and conclude that for my car, the increase in gas is not that significant. but i'll go w/ muffinMan thoughts and think about visiting ivy and holding on for dear life and we have a deliteful consultation!!

ok, so i did the math.....
dallas to ft worth and back = 80 miles [prolly the most i'd drive to go visit someone]
80 miles / 40 mpg = 2 gals
2 gals @ $3/gal = $6
2 gals @ $3.75/gal = $7.50
difference = $1.50
small potatoes considering i would visit the ft worth woman for 1.5-2 hrs.

The current cost of gasoline isn't near its historic high in constant dollars, or even in nominal dollars. Just sayin....

Although in my truck, the fuel costs would be almost 3X your example, I concur that the additional costs are minimal in relation to the cost of the session, or the cost of my time (away from work).

However, fuel prices are a hot button in this time of rising gas prices ... and its more than just the out of pocket costs. Since gas prices crossed the $3/gal price, fuel expenditures in my household have been scrutinized more closely and I don't need questions about why I had to fill up so many times this week/month.

And yes, I could just put some in on my way back using cash (I guess gas stations still take cash), but that is just one more hassle and when you add it all up, it just makes it less likely I will be travelling to Dallas as often as I have in the past.

When I travel, I do now go to extra effort to fly out of Love Field, and try to schedule something either before I leave or after I fly back in, so hopefully the Dallas ladies won't be completely off my menu.

Things change ... and we all adapt in a way that works for us.

I was talking w/a provider friend of mine, she mentioned as well she has had many outcalls as well.

I drive alot anyway, but thankful for the good gas mileage I recieve.

Even though I will host if needed...I prefer OUTCALLS...end of story.

i figured someone would do the math if their vehicle gets less than 40 mpg.
my point is that $1.50, $3.00, or even $6.00 more for gas really is small potatoes compared to the delites awaiting me at the end of my drive.

now if you're getting 5 mpg, you have bigger problems and prolly do need something to take your mind off those problems.

and i wont even start on the economics or history of fuel prices.

I actually devised my current incall schedule to save on gas, since it is fifty miles round trip for me. That is why I only do Tues and Thurs unless someone specifically prebooks for a Mon or Wed.

With advertising and everything else I pay for biz wise, watching the amount of gas I use does help reduce my overhead somewhat.

But yes, the U.S. consumer has always been spoiled as far as gas prices are concerned. Still, I am spoiled back to the days when it was like a dollar fifty a gallon...so yes four bucks does seem like a lot, even if it isnt't that high in the grand scheme of things.

Great thread! Happy Hobbying!

Small taters indeed. Lets try this.
100 gals @ $3/gal = $300
100gals @ $3.75/gal = $375
Difference = $75

So as you can see it depends on how big of a tank your filling and how deep those pockets are.

yeah, i agree that one's commute to/from your incall adds to your overhead. i was just pointing out that from a individual trip perspective, it's not's all that much. unless you are getting <10 mpg. in which case i'd suggest a more fuel efficient vehicle.

guess you're really describing using 100 gallons and not a vehicle w/ 100 gal gas tank. if the later, holy crap!!!
how fast are you going thru those 100 gals?
