I hope this idea of "mental illness" is not pursued to the point that the determination is made without benefit of due process and I don't mean the "standard" fare of "mental health" due process.
For instance: On a "mental health" standard I wouldn't give several posters in the political forum a firearm!
Right now the court order is family violence of which I am aware, but that "court order" should only be issued after a full hearing with notice and a right to contest the proceedings. LE, at least in Texas, can temporarily take firearms when there is a charge of family violence, but they can do that when there is a shooting not involving family violence.
