I doubt they would be protective of either, but since it is another country, it wouldn't be my concern at all. I'm sure California considers the rest of us to be a drag on its greatness, anyway.
All we need is a free trade agreement, which is in everyone's interest, and keep the joint Pearl-Hickam base, and we are off.
As I say, I have been to Hawaii - they are a bunch of nativists, anyway. They do not want to be part of the USA.
