I've read the history on Ragnar Lothbrook, but I can't remember the outcome of this battle. I wouldn't bet against Ragnar, in any event.
There are two different accounts of his death. One is that he was seized by his foe, King Ælla of Northumbria, and killed by being thrown into a pit of snakes. His sons bloodily avenged him by invading England with the Great Heathen Army.[3] The other was that Ragnar died from a combination of cholera and wounds he sustained from trying to invaade Paris.

i say neither dies. better for the ratings.

And if it stays true to history, Rollo does live on to settle his Norse-men in Norman-dy. "Rollo is the great-great-great-grandfather of William the Conqueror, or William I of England." (Wiki)

outstanding! you are correct! not only did you author chimp 3.5, you are speaking of William the Conqueror, the first non anglo-saxon king of England and first Norman King but also that there was no anglo-saxon king of England after that. William defeated King Harald Hardrada (of Norway) in the battle of Hastings in 1066. the anglo-saxons should have won the battle of Hastings. but since they were not yet a professional army, unlike William's forces, they had the high ground by arriving at Hastings before William and thus establishing the advantage, but during the battle .. they had a superior tactic but blew it. the tactic was to charge down from the hilltop at Hastings then retreat back and hold their position. what went wrong is that the forces of Harald kept going farther down and eventually allowing William's forces to flank and encircle them and defeat Harald's forces. Harald was killed by an arrow at Hastings, and from then on to today, all Kings of England were derived from William of Flanders (or Normandy ..either is correct) . last time i looked at a map, Flanders and Normandy is in present day France. meaning that the current ruling family of England descends from France. lol
