MODs are supposed to be transparent in their actions in the threads they edit. However, RTMing something yields zero feedback ever.
Public threads have been known to generate interest that eventually yields public responses....
A lot of you folks are helpful in that sense as you hate what I have to say so much ya can't keep from banging away on the RTM button or sending messages.....
Unfortunately I can't repost the meme, but anyone who saw it knows that there was absolutely nothing racist about the meme, the meme didn't even have anything to do with AA's, it was making fun of guys who act like jack asses in front of the camera which was very relevant to the subject of the thread that it was posted in. For those in this thread who are barking about racial slurs and being offended, please know what is going on before you open your mouths, uninformed people with opinions is never a good mix.
The context that the word was used in that meme had nothing to do with racism, it was used as a synonymous term for "Dudes", "Fellas", "homeboys", etc. etc. I am fully aware that racial slurs are not permitted that goes without saying. I figured on a board like this folks would be a little less uptight and use common sense, but apparently not.
From what I gather Mr. SpiceitUp knew that I was not being racist, I am sure he could have came down a little harder on me but chose not to. I wouldn't even call what he did a slap on the wrist, it was more of a "Please tone it down a little" response. We wished each other a happy new year and moved on, I have no issues with his handling of my post, which explains my next post in the thread. I simply laughed it off, if I'm gonna get on a mods bad side it's not gonna be over a stupid meme.
I did something similar a few months ago...using the word in the same context as you. It was also edited out by a different MOD.
To me that shows ABSOLUTE consistency from one Mod to another.

Well at least it's a consistent one and not unique to any single MOD....... I've started threads questioning the actions of MODs dozens of times...... More times than not they led to something changing in how a MOD handles the relevant subject in the future.....

I don't think we have a guideline that addresses any specific words. It would be a very simple guideline to add and very easy to enforce if there was wouldn't you agree?
I don't believe "words" alone should be banned. I know it's the easier way to moderate and if society took that approach and we simply outlawed everything that some segment of society found offensive the world would lose a lot of color. (not referring to color of different races)
I understand the sentiment but it sounds a lot like you're trying to argue that people should be allowed to use racial slurs. It's a false equivalence to compare removing racial slurs to outlawing "everything that some segment of society" finds offensive. Let's not get hyperbolic shall we?
Racial slurs are so culturally loaded and inherently offensive that they lead to conflict and they're just not suitable except perhaps in an extremely narrow purpose such as this rules discussion right here.
Also, for the record, I'm obviously unconcerned with what's easier to moderate don't you think? If I were I'd just do nothing or if I did I wouldn't bother to say why I do what I do or respond to threads like this.

More tu quoque? It demonstrates nothing other than a less than 100% removal rate and the fact that moderators are human. If they even noticed the slurs then you'd have to ask those mods why they were left in place.
Of course I'm not infallible, when have I suggested that? You pointed out a couple of threads I missed in Houston, congrats. My point in mentioning my own removals of them in the past was that if there are only 160 search returns it means either they're largely being removed by other mods as well or there have only been 160 instances of the "n" word used in over 6+ Years the site has been around. Which is more likely?
Also, what exactly ar you arguing for here? That racial slurs should be allowed? I'm confused.

I cannot point to it but that's not because it isn't true it's because it's based on the precedent and clarifications of the guidelines behind the scenes. Racial slurs get removed from view. The guidelines as written are meant to be concise, the true detail on their application exists in staff areas. It's similar to case law and addendums in the judicial system.
I realize that's irritating not being able to see everything and know exactly what's what and I was always irritated by that as well as a member. That's why as a mod I try to be as clear and transparent as possible and make it part of my role to educate members about where the lines are drawn and hopefully why.
As to the rest, you're entitled to your opinions but the guidelines don't restrict usage of potentially derogatory terms towards men and women in general. They do restrict racial slur usage.

The Guideline quoted deals with racial remarks but is typically enforced when a racial remark is targeted at a specific member that could be offended by it
Speeding is often overlooked until someone notices that someone was going too fast on their street, then all the neighbors are getting tickets. A search of the word "nigga" finds it existing in 160 posts at the moment including a discussion OF the word itself.
