The human mind is both complicated and simple in its workings. Sometimes it seems as if the woman is being redundantly stupid but is generally being overridden by the subconscious.
The other possibility is an abused background. If the woman (or man) was abused heavily as a child they could associate the violence or aggression with love itself. So the dead beat non working man who is violently inclined gets the girl. Or the sweet heart of a man ends up with a nagging evil wife.

not something you want in a someone who you go to see to take care of your needs
if my maid was sitting down every 2 minutes because she was stressed about her life, I'd tell her to go home
I doubt you'd want to continue to see your therapist if they kept breaking down in tears
Providing is a job, if a provider is out to make life long friends, or friends to get help from when she is in a pinch, she is in the wrong line of work
or are providers and clients hanging out and the BFFs I've never heard about.
