This discussion could get worse than politics or religion. No chain owned by a corporation of Gringos is capable of making TexMex. There is also a big difference between TexMex and Yucatan style food. Yucatan has a lot more seafood. The Yucatan sticks out into the Caribbean. TexMex isn’t close to the ocean so there is no fish. I lived in Dallas for many years and now I live in Fort Worth. I love Fort Worth and it pains me to say Dallas has better Mexican food in both categories. Dallas has Herrera’s on Maple good as it gets TexMex. Dallas also has La Calle Doce. No better mariscos. In Fort Worth we have El Aserdero and La Playa Maya. If your restaurant isn’t full of illegal’s eating muendo on Sunday afternoon for their hangovers then it ain't no TexMex. For the old timers La Playa has the same executive chef that owned Montezuma’s on McKinney Ave and Jenerio's Tropical on Skillman.

If your server’s first language is English go somewhere else.

Joe T’s is the most over rated restaurant in Texas. The margaritas are strong and not real good. The outdoor seating is first class.

I think this is an excellent topic. My favorite in Dallas is Chuys (salsa could be better, but the chicka chicka boom boom sauce is fantastic). In Fort Worth I vote for Joe T's. La Hacienda Ranch has my favorite salsa though by far.

El Aserdero in Ft. Worth is a cute little place and so authenic that they don't serve frozen Margaritas. By the cash register they have photos of famous conservatives. Who knew?

After you eat at Joe T's walk next dor to the Merxican bakery. Cheap and good in my Gringo opinion. How about some fresh home-made pork rinds?

Uncle Julio's bacon-wrapped, cheese -stuffed jumbo shrimp is guaranteed to make you go "yummo".

I'm from San Antonio and haven't found a decent enchilada here yet. Tex-Mex is different from Mexican but if you ever go to San Antonio, the best places are just south of downtown. The old Blanco Cafe was amazing, it was like little cilantro angels dancing on your tongue in tiny cheese shoes. Are any of the places mentioned in this thread Tex-Mex or just Mexican?

I agree with Boomvang about Joe T's.

Casa Ritas is my favorite right now - I35W and Western Center in Fort Worth
Josephina's and El Cerrito both in Azle are favorite hole in the walls with excellent food.

I rate mexican restaurants by:
- Queso, it's gotta taste like it's homemade
- Chicken, flauta and enchilada meat must be juicy and flavorful. It's easy to make beef that way so you know they try if the chicken is good
- Salsa, I like Uncle Julios but I don't like my salsa warm. Some places water it down too much as well.

My vote is for The Original on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth. Great, greasy enchiladas. For Tex Mex in Dallas, I like Mia's, Fernando's on Midway, and Rafa's on Lovers Lane.

I forgot about Fuzzy's Tacos - Everything is awesome there but very hard on my stomach!

3 locations now all in Fort Worth - Berry St. across from TCU, Race St. just east of downtown, and the newest location on Rufe Snow in Richland Hills.

Try the Yucatan Taco Stand on Magnolia.

I do like the little hibachis at Mercardo Juarez.
