The incident came several months after European Aviation Safety Agency issued warnings to airlines to avoid airspace over Ukraine, specifically over regions of Crimea. Those warnings, which were issued in April, were due to concerns that two different services might be controlling the airspace in the area, following Russia’s seizure of Crimea in March.
"It is unsafe if more than one Air Traffic Service provider is in charge of one single Flight Information Region (FIR); no compromise can be made with the safety of the flying passengers," Patrick Ky, executive director at EASA, said.
A map of alternate routes was also published by Eurocontrol, the European air traffic management agency.
In April, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration also issued a warning prohibiting pilots from flying over Crimea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. At that time, the FAA’s concern was also related to worries about “conflicting air traffic control instructions” from Ukrainian and Russian flight authorities and the possibility that a civil aircraft could be misidentified. Military actions was named as a reason for flights being prohibited in the area.
CNN speculated that the pilot of MH17 may have changed his route, flying over the disputed territory, in order to avoid a weather system.
This is the unfortunate extreme outcome for any Civilian Jetliner that flies over a "Disputed area" where the "Ground Forces" have access to sophisticated S.A.M. equipment and no clue how to use it. This has been the biggest fear of Security Services since the 1980's. A Civilian Airliner shot down by anti-aircraft fire (intentional or accidental) killing hundred's of people. Accidental or not this will change Air Travel forever (again).
As for bodies, you have to remember that the Airliner was supposedly shot down at 33,000 feet. between friction and distance. There may not be much left and surviving pieces could be spread out over a wide area. As with a number of questionable events in History. Most likely the general Public will never know the full truth about what happened. But the speculation will keep the Conspiracy Buffs busy for Years.

They found the debris field months later floating in the Atlantic. Of course they knew pretty much where the plane went down so they could follow ocean currents but with flight 137 no one has a clue.

As for your statement it is more than likely accurate, because if the U.S. intelligence is correct in its initial assessment from "assets" in place in the region, then it was not launched from the Ukraine soil and was not launched by either the Ukrainian forces or "the separatists." Given some strong initial talk from one Democrat in particular it will put the current administration in another dilemma in which the current administration would have to back down and avoid a potential military confrontation. So it is more convenient to blame a rogue group who "made a mistake" due to their incompetence, ...
... since they don't have a movie to blame this time.

If you kept up with the news you would have known that a pro-Russian rebel boasted about shooting down the plane. Said that he had told everyone not to fly over their space. He posted it on his Facebook page. He was pretty boastful about it. That is until he found out it was a commercial jet. He is the guy who says he is the defense minister of some area of Ukraine that the pro-Russians hold.
