I suggest using Linux (it is not as hard as you think to learn) and when you install it, encrypt your hard drive (you create the key)

I have gotten myself quite the crash course in Linux over the last couple of weeks lol.it's okay I'm just so used to the Microsoft platform that it's incredibly difficult to retrain myself.

To be honest, I don't see the point of average users using Linux. If a user has enough technical knowledge to install a Linux Distro and encrypt their drive, they can certainly install a good PGP encryption program (truecrypt etc), or just install bitlocker if their version of windows supports it.
The Private mode or incognito mode for the browsers, along with high UAC settings, and a good updated antivirus (which are all recommended on Linux or Mac as well BTW) should keep most folks safe from average malware

If the govt or a knowledgeable hacker wants to break into your data, well, you are out of luck. No software is 100% safe/secure (regardless of who tells you differently)
