Exclamation Semi-Intelligent

I keep hoping that one of these days, you might surprise us all and say something at least semi-intelligent.

. . . But concerning you, my hopes are
probably just too high!

Let me point out the obvious, Justin Bieber is liked by GIRLS and not women (except for the emotionally damaged opportunists). This thread is about women, lets leave the underage girls out of it. Besides those girls only know what they have been told to like. They don't know any better.

Default Pussification of America?

For the past few years, I've thought that one of our nation's biggest problems is the recent obsession our educational establishment seems to have with "self-esteem" issues. It seems that we want to relieve our kids of any risks that they might feel even the slightest bit humiliated when it dawns on them that a lot of their classmates are smarter than they are.

I've heard it referred to as the "pussification of America" -- or "wussification" in family-friendlier media sources.

This phenomenon even extents to sports. I've read that no one even keeps score nowadays in many team sport "contests." After all, we wouldn't want anyone's feelings to get hurt.

This sort of nonsense was nowhere to be seen when I was an elementary school kid back in the 1950s. Some kids were not very bright, and no doubt knew it. They were encouraged to try harder. Others were not good athletes. They were encourged to do as well as they could and taught that no one's good at everything. You should just be the best that you can be.

One thing I noticed at our high-school's 40-year reunion a few years ago was that many of the kids who didn't do so well in school did not suffer in the least from any possible "humiliation" some of today's self-esteem fetishists might have expected. In fact, some of them are doing quite well. One founded a small business that expanded into multiple locations. I'm pretty sure that he's comfortably a multimillionaire.

A few years ago I read a book called Hard America, Soft America by Michael Barone. He makes the point that while the U.S. has some of the most incompetent and poorly educated 18-year-olds in the developed world, it has some of the most competent 30-year-olds and 40-year-olds. The point is that our educational system fails to place competitive burdens on our kids while they're in school, but our job market is a tough place. A couple of years ago, 20-somethings in France were protesting in the streets over the proposed loosening of restrictions against firing people for incompetence. In some countries, it's very difficult to fire someone without essentally having to pay several years' worth of salaries. But in the U.S., you'd better shape up or you'll be shipped out. Of course, some don't and descend into despair, crime, and addiction.

Hard America pays for soft America, since "hardness", in this sense, produces, creates, and innovates.

I'm always in favor of hardness whenever circumstances call for it.

the thrust of recent society has been to tamp down men's nature; laws and mores have sought to expunge men's natural inclinations.

"re-education" has sought to "unlearn" men from what "nuture" (according to the enlightened) and not nature has taught. whole schools have been developed to push the ideological vision that there are no natural differences between men and women, all is merely cultural.

women's nature has been lauded and protected even as men's have been reviled.

no greater example of where women's nature needs similar proscription is in our courtrooms and on juries except perhaps in our federal spending.

Unfortunately, it seems like 99% of the threads in this section are made for that very purpose.

+1 captain midnight

I couldn't agree more. I was never really good at sports when I was a kid but I kept trying. I knew I wasn't as good as most but it didn't deter me. I wanted to do the best I could.

I see so many young people now that are totally pussy whipped. Parents are doing a disservice by coddling them. Darwin had it right ... survival of the fittest. Today's parenting tends to be "survival by not hurting anyone's feelings". Back then, we didn't give a crap about PC (we thought PC meant Pussy Control).
