It slowed things down a bit but it didn't cripple air travel and this won't either. Hell, if it lasts long enough the system might finally move to a private system like Canada. That'll save enough money to build the wall.
The technology is improving to lessen the load and the human element. The damn planes can fly and land themselves. That's private capital pushing that technology. The FAA has spent several billion $ into automation tech over the last few years. Collision avoidance, Departure and arrival management, etc. If you had private capital behind those billions it would already be a done deal.
The biggest down side to private ATC is for the private aviators. It will probably cost them more to fly. When privatization came up two years ago the private aviation organizations and even skydivers put a lot of money into the lobby to keep it from happening. They are scared of losing their airspace. With a lot of help from scare mongers who were convinced planes would be crashing into houses they managed to keep the FAA in control...for now.
Why are yall fighting for a wall when stopping the assistance they get when here spurtting out babies would stop them from even trying and save way more money.

I lock my doors at night. That will at least slow an intruder down. I have an alarm system. Provided I'm in a deep sleep and need a few seconds to gather myself I also have a 60# pitbull that is protective AF. I figure she'll buy me some time to figure out what's going on once the alarm goes off.(this has actually happened). Once I figure out what's going on I have the means practically and legally to put a stop to any intrusion. That's four layers of protection. A wall isnt the be all end all but it's one component.
