1) NO
2) NO

Collin Powell was extremely ambivalent about the WMD intelligence and the invasion but he just didn't have the will or the guts to stand up to Bush and tell him it's a bad idea. Rumsfeld and Cheney had wanted to invade Iraq ever since the first gulf war, this just game them an excuse to do it. There were other ways Hussein could have been dealt with. God help us if another Bush becomes president.

Thank you for your responses!

See LLIdiot, I told you it was not that difficult!

LLIdiot, a simple "Yes" or "No" will do. (Use the example found above for a reference point.)

I guess you consider Collin Powell to have been a weakling?

I think he made a political decision to go along with what he knew Bush,
Cheney and Rumsfeld were going to do anyway no matter what he said.
He decided to stand by his president even though he thought it was wrong.
Is that weak? I don't know, I think it's political. I think he wanted to keep his job.

I'll call it what it is; no fucking balls. He has no problem making his case now, but he didn't stand up when it counted and say 'hey, maybe this is a bad idea'.

Actually, quite the opposite. General Powell was anything but a weakling. I personally have the utmost respect for the General. He was the consummate soldier!

He, more so than anyone else in the Bush Administration, understood the Chain of Command. He was first and foremost a soldier and a damn good one at that! Whether the General disagreed with the decision to invade Iraq, I can not say with any degree of certainty.

But I can't help but believe that his deep respect for the Chain of Command would have trumped any personal beliefs he may have felt about the situation in Iraq.

The Nazi's blindly followed the chain of command too you idiotic sodomite. A great General would have respectfully disagreed on so important a point. Could you see MacArthur being such a pussy?

General MacArthur was fortunate to have only been fired. Quite frankly, he could have easily been forced to undergo court-martial proceedings.

For example, here are a few of the things he could have been charged with (in no particular order):

1) Conduct Unbecoming an Officer
2) Disobeying a Lawful Order
3) Derelection of Duty
4) Perhaps even Mutiny

I believe President Truman chose the proper course of action by only firing the General. Anything more would have developed into a huge media circus.

In my opinion, Truman clearly had the upper hand and chose not to overplay it.

No, I think he was the greatest General in American history, you intellectually deficient clown. Truman was a pussy who was afraid of China and Russia, and allowed the Korean War to go into a stalemate at the 38th parallel. He should have allowed MacArthur to chase the Chinese jets across the Yalu river. Now, China is too strong and we are too weak to defeat them at the rate we are going. I'm sure when either they or the Muslims take over they will execute fat people like you.

MacArthur graduated first in his class at West Point, was later the Superintendent, and won the Medal of Honor.

Please provide evidence supporting your charges or kill yourself for denigrating the honor of an American hero.

JLIdiot err DSKIdiot, why don't you ask Give 'em Hell Harry to justify his decision. It was clearly his decision, not mine!
