You are making a broad generalization as to the level of difficulty without considering variances in agencies, locations, and/or shifts within those locations based on anecdotal comments and stats.

The recent current events may well make it unbearably difficult.

I do agree that it is not like the TV portrayals, and the closest I've seen on TV to a likeness was (reruns now) "NYPD Blues" ..... which is more detectives than foot or vehicle patrol....but still had some "poetic license"! I can't recall anyone of them discharging their weapon, but my watching the show was not a regular activity.

They took Live PD off the air with a quickness when all this started otherwise I would have just said watch an episode or two of that to see what people on their best behavior(with the cameras on) look like. There are some real dumb assess out there. That's the chamber of commerce version of policing and it got utterly disgusting sometimes.

There is a deputy in Williamson County who had the patience of a Saint. I always loved watching him deescalate. A Trooper in Tulsa was a complete wise ass. He was funny at times but would mouth off at other times in a way that would piss me off.

During Army AIT school, I dated a female who is now a sheriff's deputy in the East Coast. Her county was very popular on Live PD. She had alot of tv coverage.

She was my "AIT wifey." And, she's the one who got away. I still have her on all my social media.... le sigh...

For the record, I don't believe in defunding the police. I'd rather pools of money go towards programs involving cops and kids, more money towards DWI units, more money towards forensics, and less money towards buying frigging military MRAPs and such.

Why does HISD Police need a SWAT team? Why does the city of Tomball Police need a helicopter?? Why in the world does Los Angeles ISD school police need grenade launchers and MRAP vehicles??
Good grief man! Talk about wasting tax payer money.

You should know the answer to this, if you are what you claim. Their are numerous less-lethal options for the 40mm platform from the M651 & M674 CS, M1029 Rubber Ball, M1006 Sponge Ball and others. This type of ammunition will allow a few LEOs the ability to control and break up threats that could overpower them otherwise.

Armored protected police vehicles are nothing new, especially at surplus prices or free assistance. Those can be invaluable in protecting officers and combating bunkered in individuals and groups.

Add $200 for the stamp and a 7-9 month wait to get it and you should be good to go. Best thing, they are close by in Spring.

I've had a 40mm 'Pirate Gun' on the wish list for a while. Other things have gotten in the way, LOL.

There are more than a few stamp collectors here.

14 people including 5 children killed, more than 100 shot in Chicago over Father's Day weekend

What did the one poster here say?
"They are just criminals"

They are people.

Nope, wrong, I don't claim to be anything.

You quoted me- "LA ISD school having MRAPs."

Yeah, HPD sending 2 MRAPs for an elderly suspect with mental health issues who barricaded himself when HPD was sent to do a welfare check on the guy.
This happened 2 years ago in the Heights. I witnessed this event go down. I laughed at the snipers on the roofs.
The whole ordeal lasted about 7 hours. This dude was asleep in his room the whole time, lol.

I chalked it up to HPD wanting to play with its military toys, and probably justifying an excuse for further purchase of unnecessary military equipment. *face palm*

Don't you Conservatives hate wasteful spending? Especially tax payer money? Am I wrong?

Various agencies have "mutual assistance" relationships, as you know, I assume, since you portray yourself as an expert on the topic. HPD should have a swat team as a large agency in the metro area and to assure their training is consistent with the most recent concepts and equipment. (NASA has been good in the past about special operation equipment ... lending program.) The FBI has special operations teams in the area, who will not only train, but assist depending on the issues involved.

Many agencies have "social" programs that were initiated in connection with "community policing" programs. It is a challenge to make a fine purse from a sow's ear.

Quality training on a continuous basis with constant upgrading of standards is the appropriate solution to most of the recent "use of force" incidents that have been in the news ... because the situation escalated out of the officers' control.

About 30 years ago the San Diego PD had the highest officer death rate with respect to responding to calls. The short was after an investigation that the officers had STOPPED conducting themselves in the manner taught at the department's training academy for new hires. They got back to the basics. That's why most of the officers hurt from citizen contacts are mid-range officers rather than new ones. They get complacent.

When LE agencies get their budgets cut ... training is usually the first to suffer. Not a good decision. There is more waste that can be cut, but training is not one of them. LE training is inexpensive and there are grants that offset the more expensive training that involves special locations or special equipment.... and training how to "counsel" people etc is low on the list and should be reserved for special officers assigned to that responsibility with inter-agency cooperation to reserve/conserve expenses .... just like the "SWAT" teams.

Pouring money into "feel good" programs hasn't worked so far so what makes politicians think it will NOW? The little turds tearing down statues, defacing veteran memorials, and burning small businesses are the result of higher education "feel good" courses .....

Mommy and Daddy are supposed to train people how to behave. Not cops!

Since you were there and already knew there was no threat from this guy who was asleep inside .... why didn't you step up and tell them what was actually happening before they deployed to the scene and wasted all that money, time and effort?
