Wave, if you run for Congress in the 4th district in Kansas, I will support you, but I'm keeping as far away as I can from your right hand.

So why use a teacher? Save money?

Or give free training to want-a-be's?

Or ....Is it because you think you can do it if a teacher can?
You are assuming that the teacher has an option to run or fight. Of course the swat team would be the best option but having a gun gives him a much better chance of survival than throwing erasers at the lunatic. There is not one simple solution. A combination of many of the ideas posted here would be best.

You are right but why don't we just assign a couple of special forces personnel to each school. If a cop that rarely gets in combat situations is better than a teacher that would most likely never get in a combat situation then a special forces soldier would be great. Since reality is not a limitation we can make all schools like Fort Knox and surround them with troops. The kids will never be at risk.

When you are ready to be realistic and recognize that money is a limitation and full time cops at all schools is not going to happen, then just maybe you will realize that not all teachers or bumbling incapable morons. In fact I suspect that most of them would realize that this is not a responsibility they would want and not get trained. But there are some that I suspect would be fully capable of doing this responsibly.

Umm.....NO!

If those six brave women could speak from the grave they would be against arming teachers or having armed guards in their school. You can't live your lives in fear. Mental health hospitals need to be opened across the country and 24/7 walk in mental health clinics need to be available in every city in America. The Sandy Hook slaughter brings us back to the root of the problem which is the current healthcare system of the country.

Wayne LaPierre gave a press conference today that would have made Archie Bunker proud. His logic is convoluted. Earlier today in Pennsylvania two ARMED state troopers were shot. According to LaPierre any "good guy" who is armed is EXEMPT from any harm simply because they are armed. So can someone please explain to me how these troopers were wounded? Did they fall down? Did vehicle glass explode inside their bodies? As I watched Mr. LaPierre give his press conference today I felt sad and disappointed as an American. With a straight face he stood there as his words slapped the face of twenty sets of parents who lost their children on Friday. He might as well have been wearing fatigues as he rallied for gun sales. Oh...I mean as he rallied for the "National School Shield".

BTW there was an armed uniformed resource officer on duty at Columbine. His name is Deputy Neil Gardner who was a 15 year veteran of the local sheriff's office at the time. He was a good guy with a gun. Why didn't he get the bad guys with a gun?

Please do not live your lives in fear. You can't fight violence with violence. Life is a beautiful gift...please try to enjoy it.

And you know this how? Do you have a hotline to the afterlife? You can disagree with anyone on here but you can't put words in the mouths of those killed.

You lying ignorant bitch. That is not what he said and you know it. Nobody here has said that a good guy with a gun is guaranteed to be the victor in a confrontation with a bad guy. What is being said is if the good guy has a gun he has a better chance of survival than if he doesn't. Why do you insist on making shit up to support your left leaning ideas?

Why did they not draw their weapons? That is the $64,000 question. Has nothing to do with this discussion.

What was described above is called "defense in depth". Instead of one hardened defensive device (like metal detectors or an armed guard at the door) the defense is layered so though you may defeat one device there is another and maybe another to is designed to stop or slow you down. Once a hardened defense is penetrated (think Maginot Line) there is nothing to stop or deter an attacker.

There is no layered defense for you in the sandbox.

You guys are funny, you want some perfect condition
where all the variables are covered and a perfect outcome
is the result.

NEWS FLASH---It aint gonna happen cus we live in the real world.

Bottom line, I think I will keep my right to own a gun and protect myself
and the others around me, just like the constitution says I can.

And if anyone doesn't want to own a gun that is their right also.

You guys watch too many movies or something and think everything
should always just fall into perfect place before the credits roll.

Anyone in any situation can only do their best.
As for me I like the advantage of a little firepower on my side.

Another example of how entertainment and the media controls
our thinking. Everybody take their head out of the medias ass
and start to think for yourselves for a change.

Another example of why not to arm teachers .... and

... poor training or complacency ...

"Authorities said officers were investigating a report of a possible drug deal in a grocery store parking lot Sunday night when Tiscareno opened fire, killing two officers."

The shooter is dead.
