MQT: The Movie Quote Trivia Game
This is a game a few friends and I made up on the very first BBS we had in Ohio and Kentucky back in 1985. For you kids out there, we first went live with our BBS using a couple of TRS-80s that had cassette tape drives.
At 1.77 MHz with 4 KB of RAM we tended to get bored while waiting for messages to go back and forth on the posts and threads, so out of sheer boredom we would entertain ourselves exchanging movie quote challenges while waiting for the processing. When we upgraded to the blazing speed of Commodore 64s, we had less time to exchange challenges in the lab, and started to make it a regular part of the BBS and the rest is history. One of the guys I worked with went on to join the design team that merged America Online with some other growing board and I think MQT was one of the first threads they used in the test version. Now it has become a patented board game, and just about every electronic community board has it own version.
I know there are a few regional games going, mostly on the Texas boards already, but I thought since we are trying to make the "E" a national giant, i might take a crack at putting a versio of the game here the main thread.
It is a pretty fun game with very easy rules.
1) Put your answer (movie title) in CAPs
2) Put your next quote in bold
3) If someone does not guess your quote within a few hours, come back and add a character, cast, or plot hint.
4) If someone makes a mistake and guesses your quote incorrectly, try to be gracious and feel free to point out the mistake, but keep in mind the thread may have moved on and you will need to guess the current pending quote before taking another turn.
5) Using the QUOTE BOX is helpful if the thread becomes tangled with discussions or multiple pending quotes. You can also use the EDIT function if you catch a redundant answer. Given how awesomely fast this board is, you may need to fix your response. It is is considered rude to jump a quote with one of your own--GET ONE TO GIVE ONE.
I will get us started with a classic from the same year I first played this game:
Wyatt: "Do you think Lisa's having a good time?"
Garry: "Lisa could have a good time at an insurance seminar, Wyatt."

I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I STILL WATCH IT TO THIS DAY...WEIRD SCIENCE
Here is mine from a movie not that far from the same year as this one....
Tell Victor that Ramon - the fella he met about a week ago? - tell him that Ramon went to the clinic today, and I found out that I have, um, herpes simplex 10, and I think Victor should go check himself out with his physician to make sure everything is fine before things start falling off on the man

ANSWER: Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley in BEVERLY HILLS COP
Here's an obscure quote from a not so obscure movie:
[looks at his watch] Damn! Where is that kid?
[looks at a small alarm clock in his other hand] Damn!
[looks at a second watch on his other wrist] Damn, Damn!

BACK TO THE FUTURE
You're not the man I knew ten years ago.
It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage.

TOMBSTONE one of my favorite movies.
sheriff: Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!
killer: Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

THE PRINCESS BRIDE
"Why don't you just jump off the roof, right here and now? That's what you really want, isn't it? Yes, you do. You smoke crack, don't you, boy? Don't you smoke crack? Yeah, I thought so. And you know what that does to you? You don't? It kills your brain cells, son. It kills your brain cells! Now when you're destroying your brain cells, you're doing the same thing as killing yourself. You're just doing it slower! Now, I say if your wanna kill yourself, don't fuck around with it, do it expeditiously! Go on and jump! JUMP!"

PRINCESS BRIDE
That's Hancock out there, and he ain't gonna run. So it's mathematical after all. If they get to that road, or beyond it, we'll suffer over fifty percent casualties. But, Harrison, I don't believe my boys will reach that wall.

That would be True Grit.
And now the next one:
Anyone that runs, is a VC. Anyone that stands still, is a well-disciplined VC!
