Default DNC controversy - Jerusalem Israel removed from & restored to plank

Democrats Fumble Major Israel Issue, Put Jerusalem As Capital in Platform

Mitt Romney: Democrats threw Israel under bus

the God removal thing I can understand.

but removing Jerusalem as Israels capital from the plank is a bit harder to figure out.

The flip flop has to be very embarrassing to the Democrat leadership.

even more embarrassing, the lengths the leadership went to put the God & Jersualem points back into the plank over the objections of many delagates.

I'm thinking the reason they took Jerusalem out as
1 - a nod to the Palestinians who want half of Jerusalem as their capital
2 - they've given up on the peace process - 2 state solution is not viable

perhaps this might be related to this article?

There were two pieces that were taken out of the platform, the bit about Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and the part about making an America where people could apply their God-given abilities.

What makes this story important was that it shows, IN DETAIL, that the Democratic National Committee has no qualms whatsoever about ignoring their own rules for doing things.

The L.A. mayor did three voice votes. The voice votes appeared to be equally divided. The rules say that a 2/3 majority is REQUIRED for passing something like this, and standard procedure under those cases is to call for division of the house: one side stands on this side of the room, the other side stands over there, and heads get counted.

That didn't happen. There was NO attempt to determine whether there was a 2/3 majority, probably because it would have shown that there WASN'T one. It might even have shown that a slim majority of the convention was voting AGAINST the two planks.

Think about this next time you are tempted to say "Democrat" and "rule of law" in the same breath.

it was a huge flip flop and an embarrassing one at that.

That didn't stop the Dims from trying to blame some unknown staffers for the omissions (probably staffers on loan from NBC -- the network known for such "omissions").

they do love to blame something that went awry on someone else. they will not own up to it (their failures or mistakes).

Staffers don't do things like that by mistake. There are too many levels of review, too many eyes on the document. Everyone at the top knew exactly what was in that original document, before the general public ever heard it.

The party faithful WANTED those planks out of there. So did, from the voice votes, about half of the rank-and-file delegates: well short of the required 2/3 majority.

But what's a little thing like following the rules matter to Democrats?

Republicans have their issues and have watched their fraudlent attempts to shut out Ron Paul delgates. they were eventually forced to compromise before it got out of control in an embarrasing way before the convention. In case you haven't noticed, they too threw out the rule book.

IMO it was a mistake and BO wanted to correct it.....but the sound of the vote was very telling about the DNC.

Word is Odumbo approved of the omissions, before he didn't approve of the omissions.

Have you ever READ the Declaration of Independence?

Most of that document is a long list of grievances against the British Crown, about places where the Crown ignored and flouted the laws of England that supposedly applied to all Englishmen, including those in the Colonies.
