Look at what happened in the Georgia Senate runoffs. Democrats turned out in droves because Trump pissed them off. Republicans stayed home because Trump told them their votes wouldn't be counted.
Or Arizona. Jeff Flake would still be a Senator, except that Trump made him unelectable in the primary. Right now it's looking like Trump's going to get behind candidates in 2022 who will kowtow to him, and some of them won't be able to win in general elections.
What happens if he runs in 2024? He's brainwashed 70% of Republicans and he'll probably get the nomination. But he's a loser. He got lucky in 2016 in the electoral college. He got wiped out in 2020. He's the most unpopular president since Richard Nixon.
Many Americans believe he tried to steal the 2020 election, and they're not going to vote for him or for politicians who support him. As long as he's the figurehead of the party, his karma rubs off on other Republican candidates, making it harder for them to win elections. So the probability Democrats make a clean sweep at the national level is improved. And America remains a one party state.
